Average Rating: Rating: - One of the best relationship books ever written. Gary Chapman has hit the nail on the head with this one! This is simply one of the best relationship books ever written. Both my wife and I read the book and completed the action items, and it has helped our marriage immensely. Chapman's insight into how to keep your partner's "love tank" full is innovative and practical. The book is written in easy to read chapters, and Chapman cites his work with other couples to illustrate specific points. By doing so, he gives the reader a "real world" examples of how understanding your partner's love language will strengthen your relationship and open communication. The reader can easily relate to these examples and identify with their challenges, and subsequent victories. My wife and I recommend this book to every couple we know, whether their relationship is good, bad or other. This book can be a marriage-saver. Rating: - This can change your marriage! My husband and I read this book together before we decided to marry and it completely set the stage for our marriage. He's an Acts of Service kind of guy, and I'm a Quality Time. Before we read this he was constantly doing all kinds of nice things for me while I sat and waited for him to stop with all the 'doing' and just spend time with me! Now that we understand how the other person understands love we are able to demonstrate it in a way that's meaningful. Not only that, but now when he does do nice things for me I'm beginning to understand that he's showing me how much he loves me. Over time we not only know how the other person understands love, but we're learning each other's language so that it becomes our 'secondary language'. This book will bring your communication and understanding of each other to a whole new level! I don't know where we would be if we hadn't read it! Rating: - If only I had learned this sooner . . . Outstanding explanation of what we all should but don't know about love relationships. I was amazed at how accurately the book expressed and explained my own life experiences. During troubled times in my marriage I felt that no matter how hard I tried to make my wife happy, I felt that she was less than pleased by my attempts. I realize now that I was not expressing my love for her in a manner that made her feel loved - her "primary language" - but instead in the language which made me feel loved. We both realized but couldn't explain why we tended to give gifts to each other that were meaningful to the giver but not as meaningful to the recipient. The lack of understanding each other's language of love ultimately created years of needless and unintended hurt feelings and emotional separation. I would recommend this book to anyone in or looking for a valued relationship. Share it with your children so they might avoid the mistakes of their ignorant parents. Another life lesson that must be learned. Great book.
