Rating: - Excellent and to the point - perfect for busy parents
Elizabeth sent me this book so that I could review it for her and what a fabulous book it is. This is a really easy to use book, you don't have to read cover to cover to get your info. The format is in an easy topic look-up style and I refer to it often with my own four children! This book has 319 pages and not one page is what I would consider a waste of space or "filler". The parenting tips are written from common sense no-nonsense thinking and I can endorse this book. The foreward was written by North America's very own William Sears, M.D.
Rating: - THE Perfect Parenting Book
Perfect parents? Us? No, not yet. But with the help from a book like PERFECT PARENTING we're one step closer to becoming a BETTER parent to our three children. The easy to use dictionary style makes this a great resouce when you have to have an idea NOW. My husband, the reluctant reader, has even looked up some of our current parenting issues; It's that easy to use! And, of course, Elizabeth Pantley's ideas on every issue from Accident Prone to Yelling inspires us to be the best parents we can. Short of the Bible, PERFECT PARENTING and Elizabeth Pantley's other book, KID COOPERATION, will be the best read books in our home.
Rating: - SANTY RESTORED!...at least for al little while!
I think the title, "Perfect Parenting" is a bit of an initial turn-off, since in my opinion, parenting is definitely not an "exact" science nor art by any means, but rather a learning process that includes trial and error. However, I do like the inside of the book. I really appreciate it's reader friendly format. It is so easy to find the tips I'm looking for in the dictionary of helpful advice for my 4- and 12-year-old "angels". When my kids seem to be literally running my household, I have to stop and ask myself, "Who is really the parent in charge here!" After consulting this book, I become more composed and I always come away with the comforting thought that I am not the only parent who has these problems (even if a tip doesn't work). I also recommend a new book I first read in my pediatrician's office called "The Pocket Parent". This small pocket guide addresses 40 common hot-button behavior problems solely for parents of preschoolers (2's, 3's, 4's, and 5's). If you have one, you know that they can challenge your sanity daily. "The Pocket Parent" is also written in a similar quick access A-Z format. The short bulleted suggestions in this book are appropriately called "sanity savers". Both books are written by professionals who are also experienced but not perfect parents. I like the fact that neither of these 2 books talk down to their readers. You are encouraged to choose which suggestions make good sense to try with your family, since every mom (or dad) is the true expert with their kids. No one book has all the answers that work all the time for every family, but both of these books have hundreds of ideas that help me a lot.
