Average Rating: Rating: - Great book for both saving money and buying quality stuff I have not calculated how much I saved with this book but I am sure it's well over $250. I shopped on babycatalog.com for a stroller and saved $50.I bought Simmons Crib and pais $200 for it instead of $450 for another crib which actually got a C rating in this book but was recommeded to me by a salesperson.The advice for baby layette is also great.I highly recommend this book to those parents who want the best for their kids but at reasonable cost.I would not recommend it for the parents who think that if they pay the very top dollar, they are getting the best and for those who think that their kids should only wear designer clothes(realize,it's more to show off to strangers than to make your kid comfy) Definitely search the web sites that Fields recommend. I am very superstitious so we did not buy any items before the baby was born. Using this book, however, we went to the store a month before baby was born and selected big ticket items such as crib,stroller, car seat and mattress. I then prepared a list for my husband with item description,manufacturer,cost, quantity, etc. As a result,he and my mom in law spent only 2 hours doing shopping for the baby instead of 10 of they did not have the list. This book starts you off right in the long journey which not only requires your love but your money as well. While we should give our children unlimited love, we can sure limit how much we spend. Rating: - A must-have book for any first time parent! There are SO many baby products on the market that it can be truly overwhelming. This book takes the guess work out of trying to figure out which crib or stroller or car seat to buy for your baby. They have done all of the research on quality, recalls, service, and price for you! Being pregnant, I don't have the energy or time to shop around and collect information on products. Plus, they tell you what baby items you REALLY won't need, which will save you lots of money. A couple thoughts to new purchasers of the book: Read it with an open mind. The information in the book is constantly changing. Companies alter the format of the their web sites and are constantly improving and changing the design of their products. I've used the book as a general reference for everything, but I go to their web site to confirm any changes or recalls that might have occurred since the book was published. They constantly are updating their site. The authors rate items primarily based on quality, which is incredibly important for any baby item. Generally, the higher quality items are going to cost more money. However, the authors do provide cost conscious options for those people that are not willing to purchase the most expensive products on the market. Many other reviews I've seen posted seem to ignore this option. All in all, Baby Bargains is a must have for any soon-to-be parents' library. Whenever we go to Babies R Us, I see many couples walking around with this book as they make their purchasing decisions. It's truly a must-have! Rating: - Good sense and humor in buying quality baby stuff for less The authors of "Bridal Bargains" give great advice on what's important and safe to buy for your baby and give excellent pointers on purchasing quality items for less (in a fun-to-read, humorous style). The authors tell you when it makes sense to buy top-of-the line and where to save-- from furniture to clothing to toys. As first-time parents, we didn't initially know where to start, but this book gave us a solid grounding. It also includes a pull-out card to take shopping that summarizes hints. The authors additionally provide updates to the book on a website. A must-buy from my perspective --I've been buying this for friends who are expecting, too.
