Average Rating:
Rating: - extremely informative!
I recommend this book very, very highly. It is full of useful information for helping a woman to conceive, to avoid conceiving, to pinpoint conception date and due date (very important so that tests during pregnancy will be timed correctly), to try to conceive a baby of the gender you want, and all in all understand your body better. I found it empowering to learn as much as i could so that i can be a better advocate for my own health and well being. The style is simple and straightforward, the charts and illustrations helpful, the glossary is useful--a highly recommended reference for your bookshelf.
Rating: - It Worked For Us !!!!
My husband and I were given Toni's book as a gift by cousins in the Seattle, WA, area, after we shared with them we were trying to conceive. Married 12+ years, on the pill the entire time, we didn't know if we could even get pregnant after trying so long NOT to. I'm 38, my husband is 45, so we wanted to approach the challenge armed with as much good information as possible. We can't say enough about this book. Toni spells everything out so anyone can understand the method, and the underlying humor that runs throughout is a Godsend. We got the book in late January 2001, and started using her system for charting my fertility. Only 3 short months later, we were successful in conceiving our first child, who is due in early January 2002. I highly recommend this book for anyone who wants a good starting point, and needs common-sense, down-to-earth advice and guidelines. With both of us being biology majors in college, we could appreciate the "biology" of the female body as she spells it out, and it really only takes 5 minutes or less a day to do your charting. We found manual charting to be a bit of a hassle, but happened upon the Lifecycle software (joint venture between Toni and Ovusoft) on the internet, for free during a trial period. The package allowed us to keep our stats on our home pc, which eliminated the manual charting altogether. We highly recommend this book!!!
Rating: - A great place to start educating yourself about "infertility
After 2 years of trying to get pregnant, my OB prescribed Clomid and told me "it would help me to ovulate" - that's it. No warnings that it was a fertility drug and no warnings about side effects. I was a bit naive and followed the Doctor's orders without question. To make a long story short, my doctor and I parted ways and I began to educate myself. I read a number of books on the subject of pregnancy achievement and infertility. This is by far the best book to start with. It will teach you about the reproductive cycle and show you how to chart your cycle. By charting, you can identify when your most fertile time is and you may be able to detect if things are amiss and you need to seek treatment. I was able to determine that I am just VERY irregular. After I knew what to look for, I was able to conceive in just 3 months! I recently had my second child which I charted for and conceived quickly again. I can't recommend this book enough!!!! You owe it to yourself to read this before you agree to fertility drugs and testing. You may not need them. If you do, you will be all the wiser.
