Average Rating: Rating: - An amazing book on leadership Giuliani has given us an amazing book on 'leadership'. Filled with excellent examples that make it highly readable, he covers the many aspects of leadership and presents the following points: -Everyone's Accountable, All the Time: Leaders need to accept the blame if things go wrong - and expect similar standards all the way down the chain. -Underpromise and Overdeliver: "A leader must manage not only results but expectations." Avoid mentioning what you've done until you've actually accomplished something. -Develop and Communicate Strong Beliefs: "those who look to you for answers ... have a right to know how you see the world." A leader "must bring people aboard, excite them about his vision, and earn their support. -Organise Around a Purpose: Most organisations start off well, but over time lose focus on their real reason for existence. -Reflect, Then Decide - don't rush: the longer you have to make a decision, the more mature and well reasoned that decision should be. Rating: - Outstanding Book That Everyone Should Read I bought and read Rudolph W. Guiliani's book, "Leadership", because of having read the Amazon.com reviews on it, especially the one dated October 6, 2002 called Character Leadership Education and the one by another author on leadership (Remick, Nov. 16, 2002) who lauded Rudolph Guiliani's leadership qualities. I have read the book (not just the reviews, as some do). Therefore, I believe my opinion should be useful and compelling testimony to anyone who is trying to decide whether to buy this book. "Leadership" was excellent. It presents Mayor Guiliani as a bonafide role model that our youth should look up to and follow (not like many of the sports, recording, and Hollywood stars, unfortunately). Rudolph W. Guiliani has performed yet another laudable service to America with "Leadership". This is a book that everyone deserves the opportunity to read. When you are finished, pass it on to someone who wants to learn, but cannot afford to buy books. Lack of money should not be an obstacle to the messages contained here. This is an outstanding book that everyone should read. If you want to read the type of books that helped shape Mayor Guiliani's leadership character, I recommend your going on to read "West Point: Character Leadership Education....Thomas Jefferson" by Norman Thomas Remick, available here from Amazon.com. Rating: - Interesting book....slow read. I agree with one of the previous reviewers that this WAS a slow read, but it was a read that I learned a lot from. Giuliani is a brilliant man and leader, and his views on leadership, politics, and being a good human being were something that I hope to benefit from. It was extrememly interesting to read his blow by blow accounts of what happened on September 11. He handled the entire situation with the utmost professionalism and perfect grace. Where the book gets slow is in other areas talking about certain events that have happened throughout his career as an attorney, and as an aspiring politician. Though important to the premise of the book, they get a little long winded which is why this book took me a while to read. All in all, a good book for anyone interested in Giuliani the man, as well as learning good leadership and success skills.
