Average Rating: Rating: - A Guide For Looking Inside Yourself "The Four Agreements" by Don Miguel Ruiz is some of the best money I have ever spent. For such a small book this one could certainly change many more lives that people I'll ever meet in mine. It breaks everything all down and lets your soul be your guide. The four basic agreements are: 1. Be Impeccable With Your Words. 2. Don't Take Anything Personally. 3. Don't Make Assumptions. 4. Always Do Your Best. You can't break it down much more than that. These basic goals and hopes are wonderfully helpful and a path to making ones life a bit easier. While, I'm not one for a lot of self-awareness books, self-help, etc....but, I certainly found this one helpful, honest and forceful. It made me take a good look at myself and make some changes in how I plan to proceed from this day. If nothing else, give yourself a chance and read this book. It might be helpful. Rating: - The most useful spritual book I have ever read. Astounding! Many of us have searched for years for answers to basic questions about why we are here in this life and how should we conduct ourselves. Miguel Ruiz presents the most direct, simple, and yet profound answers to these questions. Thank you Miguel Ruiz. He has shown me that I can look within, using what he calls "the second attention," to find my own personal truth. His description of how we are "domesticated" into the Dream of the Planet, and the path to take to free ourselves from being controlled in our lives by that old dream, has freed me to live a much more authentic life. The very best thing about these teachings are the straightforward tools that Miguel Ruiz gives us to change our old belief systems and agreements. I have used them, and they work! The freedom that Miguel Ruiz has discovered for himself shines through this book as simple wisdom and a genuine love that I could feel physically and emotionally as I travelled his path with him. I have read this book many times, and will continue to do so. Rating: - Powerful punch for such a small book... Generally speaking, I've never been into "self-help" or "metaphysical" books... I usually find them repeating the same old message throughout hundreds of pages. In my opinion, most self-help books could be cut down to about 50 pages and still leave you with the same message as a 400 page book. The great thing about "The Four Agreements" was the brevity... it can easily be read in a day. And besides being brief, this small book has a unique tone and a unique message - I'm not surprised that it remains a bestseller three years after it was published. The Toltec teachings that don Miguel Ruiz writes about aren't exclusively Toltec - many of them match up to the teachings of other religions and can most certainly be applied to any religious or spiritual path. I highly recommend that this book be read several times to pick up on every pearl of wisdom that Ruiz has to offer. And, after a few readings, you may even begin to realize that the Four Agreements have started working in your life subconsciously... they've slowly worked their way into my life without me even realizing it!
