Average Rating: Rating: - Absolutely the best thing you can do for your score! Taking the tests in 10 Real SAT's is by far the best thing you can do to raise your score. Really. Becoming familiar with the test, seeing the types of questions and just getting in the SAT taking mindset will help you more than any vocabulary flashcards, math worksheets, tutors, or SAT programs ever will (and the book is a lot less expensive!). Though I did not score poorly on my PSAT's, I did want to score significantly better. After doing those flash cards and math sheets and visiting a few tutors, my score had gone up, but not as much as I had wanted it to. So, for the two months before the big test day, I took one full test every Saturday (it sounds like I lot, I know, but it's not that bad!). With each test, my score went up 10-30 points, and on test day, I did even better than I had been doing on the practice tests, raising my score to the level I had wanted. My advice: buy this book, and take at least three or four tests. It WILL raise your score! (Unless you're consistently getting 1600's, of course...) Rating: - Get this book This is a book you should get even if you also insist on getting one of those Kaplan-style books that try to teach you tips and tricks for the test. The tests printed in this book are authentic and exactly like the real SAT. If you do several of these before you take the actual test, and look over each one to see what you did wrong - that is probably the best way to prepare short of ruining your life and memorizing lists of stuff. (Which probably would not work anyway.) Math is not my strong suit and my score went up significantly just through looking at the tests and realizing that the same sorts of questions come up over and over again - so it is best to get to know them well. Verbal wise, I can't really offer any good tricks for people who have trouble with that. Just start reading I suppose... So to summarize, I'll say that using this book and familiarizing yourself with the test is the single best thing you can do to prepare. Rating: - Recommended by an SAT Prep teacher I am an SAT instructor for a national test prep company, and I use this book in my classes. There's nothing better than REAL test problems for students who want to improve their score. For those of you who are not taking a test prep course and are self-motivated enough to prepare on your own, this is the book to start with. If at all possible, try to time yourself according to the section you're taking to get the full "test effect." The only drawback of this book is that it does not give you detailed explanations for each of the questions. I give this book 4 stars instead of 5 specifically for this reason. Other than this, however, I have no qualms whatsoever recommending this book to EVERYONE who plans to take the test (and is serious about getting into the college of their choice).
