Perfection is a word rarely used when defining video games of the Role Playing genre. Usually with RPG's there are certain glitches and minor flaws which may taint a gamers perspective of the game. Also it occurs to me that many people decide on a game based on graphics instead of story. Of course most RPG's are at a disadvantage graphically due to the vastness of the games environments and information. But not with this game. Final Fantasy VII is the alpha and omega of perfection. It holds strong to both graphics and storyline. The storyline is quite simple at first, but takes a 180 and what happens is the most exciting adventure of all time. I will not give specifics to what the storyline holds in store for curious gamers, all that i may say is that to fully experience the game's twists and turns, you must first turn yourself off to spoilers and enjoy the game for what it is. The beautiful and enchanting music created by Nobuo Uematsu are masterfully appropriate for the games atmosphere and themes. And what gamer could forget the most moving in the entire game? Of course this piece being Aeris's Song. On the other end of the music spectra we have the lavish One Winged Angel, Sephiroth's Boss theme. This game never ceases to entertain or amaze all who may play it. Final Fantasy VII is the pinnacle of video games in all genres. This timeless classic combines racing, underwater Twisted Metal-esque submarine battles, and when you must defend the phoenix from Shinra Inc., strategy. So in conclusion this game will stand the test of time, and continue to break barriers for RPG's to come.
Rating: - One of the best ever...yet overrated somehow
Final Fantasy VII. One of the most groundbreaking games ever. Since pretty much everyone's played this game, I'll just comment on a few things about FF7, and what it did to change the gaming world...This game is to RPG's what the original Super Mario Bros. 3 was to side scrolling adventure. After Mario 3, everyones favorite video game genre was side scrolling adventure games, every company wanted to make side scrolling adventure, and everyone owned a copy of Mario 3, and if you didn't own it, you wanted to borrow it from your friend. But it wasn't nessesarily the gameplay that made it so popular. It was the presentation. The little additions. FF6 had a remarkably similar fighting system to FF7 with the one exception of magic. Both games had very similar character types. Both games had the whole "Fight one bad guy and find out another even worse bad guy is doing something and sort of le the other guys slide while we go save the world as opposed to saving a few people and end up saving those people in the process anyway" story. But one thing FF7 had over FF6 was the presentation. Even though gameplay should be the main focus of gamers, so many gamers are too into graphics to care, unfortunatly. FF6 had OK graphics for the time, but people want spectacular. Mind blowing. That it didn't have. FF7 did. FF7 was also plugged commercially. A lot. Like Mario 3. The 3 kids played Mario 3 in the movie 'The Wizard' before the game was even in stores. And seeing those kids play Mario 3 made you go "I must have!" FF7 not only had lots of commercial plugs, but also implimented the RPG scheme that revolutionalized RPG gaming. Before FF7, no game had the whole 3rd person-Resident Evilish camera view scheme. It was always 3/4ths overhead. It also had the best looking CG-Cut scenes at the time too, and some of the best graphics. But even with all these things, is FF7 the best game ever made? Perhaps. Probably not, when you really think about it. If you go by gameplay, there have been some games that have been a bit better, cuz with games, it's very easy to add on and improve. Go by story, FF7 has a great story, but not exctly the most original one (I'm not knocking the story, mind you. I know I could never think up anything nearly as good as it, myself.) If you go by groundbreaking, Pong is #1, Tetris #2, the original Super Mario Bros. #3, just because in the big picture, the originals are the most groundbreaking. Like the discovery of fire. We couldn't even make sliced bread without fire. Sure, this isn't really a review, it's more of an essay on the popular opinion of Final Fantasy VII. But there's enough reviews of this game, and not enough writing about the game (Think that statement through a bit, it makes sence sorta.) This was written more to open your eyes and make you think about these things, and recognize FF7 for what it is, and think twice before calling it "Hand's down the best game ever made."
Rating: - The proverbial "king" of Final Fantasy
Review in a few words: This game is God. Worship it.To be more specific, this is the most engrossing and entertaining game on the planet. It's like reading a good novel, like watching a great movie; only YOU choose the outcome. FFVII has probably the greatest storyline ever put into written words. Drama, comedy, action, and the unfogettable sorrow from a main character's death; this game has it all. Each character is developed so well you'll soon forget they aren't even real (I know I have). So great is the story that thousands of fanfics have been written all over the net to tribute. In addition to great story, it has an innovative, flexible, and easy to learn battle system: materia junctioning. It can be simple, or as you earn more materia later in the game, a complex obsession to form the ultimate combination. Add Limit Breaks, spectatcular summons, dazzling spells, and facinating enemies, and you'll enter battle just to watch Cloud slice and dice or Barret fill enemies with lead. However, this game is not for the timid. You will spend at least thirty hours playing, up to seventy if you want to get and do everything FFVII offers: submarine battles, chocobo racing, battle arenas, ultimate weapons, two secret characters, even a trip into space. Levelling up is mostly unnecessary as long as you don't run from enemies too often, and most of the battles aren't too hard or too easy. The 3D graphics are excellent, the FMVs nicely done, and the battle effects are spectacular (Bahamut Zero...). On top of that, Mr. Nobuo Uematsu himself adds a spectaul;ar soundtrack to add even more atmosphere to a deep game. Quite possibly the greatest game Squaresoft has ever made. Buy it, play it, love it!
