Nice job Sega! It's great! In 1-P Story mode, you can save the world (Sonic, Knuckles, Tails), or even conquer it (Dr. Eggman, Shadow, Rouge). There are 16 Hero, 14 Dark, and the final stage and 2 bosses once both stories are complete. In Stage Select, you can play up to 31 stages for 155 emblems! Kart Racing is simple but fun, and Boss Attack lets you choose a story, and battle every boss. 2-P Battle Mode is vastly improved, and great too! In Racing, you can play as Sonic, Shadow, Amy, or Metal Sonic; in Hunting, you play as Knuckles, Rouge, Tikal, or Chaos Zero; in Shooting, you play as Tails, Dr. Eggman, Chao Walker, or Dark Chao Walker. There is a nice 4-P Chao Race, 2-P Chao Karate, and a great 2-P Kart Race to round things out here. In Chao World, there is the ability to raise hero, dark, or neutral Chao. If a hero or dark Chao is raised, Hero or Dark Gardens will appear. The Chao Kindergarten in Sonic Adventure 2 [was bad](Health Center with no personality, record or stat check, long classes, not enough tips), but it rules here, partly because of a new Fortune-Teller that names, and mainly because of the new Black Market. It sells rare eggs, 7 different fruits, 8 different seeds, masks, and other items. In Chao Stadium, you can play in special races, or Karate tournaments. If you use the better-looking Chao Transporter, you can move your Chao to different Gardens through different Memory Cards, or drop it off in Sonic Advance's Tiny Chao Garden! This game has unlockable Karts and Costumes once you have all of a characters emblems. The Green Hill Zone, the hidden stage, is very hard to get,..., because you must get all 180 emblems. (At max, in 2-P Battle, there are 30 stages!)
Rating: - It's got something for everyone!
Sonic the Hedgehog used to be a huge hit for the Sega system. Now that Sega isn't a competitor any more, the GameCube has picked up this star and expanded its gameplay.First, for normal gameplay, you now get to choose from a good or bad team instead of just one character. Each team is made up of 3 individual characters. You can be the "good guys" - Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles. Or you can choose to be the "bad guys" - Dr. Eggman, Shadow, and Rouge. Each team through stages in their own path, and the end result of each path comes together. The stages are fun to play, as the various characters have their own styles of missions and quests. In addition, there is also a multiplayer fighting mode. You can do an Action Race battle where four sonic-like characters (each with their own strengths and weaknesses) get to race along tracks. There are treasure-hunt races, and shooting battles. For some, the best part are the Chao parts of the game. A chao is a little creature you raise from an egg. Depending on how you raise it, the creature can turn out good and loving, or dark and evil. You can then race your Chaos or let them karate-battle each other. It's your own little GameCube Black-and-White Creature! Definitely a game with something for everyone, whether your gaming addiction tends towards racing, fighting, or creature-rearing!
Rating: - Preeeetty darn good... despite what others may say.
Sonic Adventure 2 is unlike anything I've ever played. Get it for the exploration, or get it for the rush of Sonic and Shadow's unimaginable speed. Either way, get it.City Escape is the first level you play in Hero side of the game as Sonic. This level alone makes the entire game worthwhile. I noticed today that I've played that level over 50 times, while I've played most Tails/Robotnick Knuckles/Rouge levels 1 time. It's just the core definition of "fun." Unfortunately, not all levels are like that. With Knuckles/Rouge, you're thrown into worlds where you must find 3 pieces of the Chaos emerald. It's tedious many times... the rush from the Sonic/Shadow levels is no where to be seen in these levels. They're fun... if only mildly. But then you've got Tails/Robotnick. These levels are straightforward: shoot everything. There's some fun elements to that, but it's a little repetetive. Wait, wait, wait! With all this negative talk, why on earth did I give it 4 out of 5 stars and not something lower? Because, there's so much replay value to this game, it never gets old. Get all 150 emblems (which I have yet to do), and something very... very cool will happen, that will make oldschool Sonic fans (much like myself) very very happy. And not to mention Chaos... like Tamogatchis (c'mon, who DOESN'T know what those are?). Raising Chao seemed like such a difficult task at first, however my friend showed me how to get started, and it's quite easy, and addicting. That's a game in itself. So Sonic Adventure 2 Battle = lots of time, if you don't have time... get this anyway. It's great... just watch out for those emerald pieces.
