Average Rating:
Rating: - Realistic & Blood-Pumping
SOCOM: U.S Navy Seals puts you in the place of a Navy Seal. It is a 3rd person shooter that is realistic in everyway. The game carries you off from the Thai Jungles to oil tankers. You can kill all enemies with a well placed shot and that means you can also suffer the same fate with a well placed shot. The gameplay is very fluid and action oriented. Although, this isn't your typical strafing shooting game, it takes some cold hard skill. If you fail to use "Cold Hard Skill" then you'll end up with you and your 3 seal buddies dead. The sound in this game is very real sounding with the sound of bullets flying past, the yells and screams of terrorists, the soft footsteps of you seal, and the commands and info that floods through your included USB headset. All the sound affects are great with the exception of the music. When you fire upon somone the music will start up to increase the drama, but sometimes, it's way off key. The graphics are excellent from the enviroments down to the characters' faces. This game can also be played online, and that is the best part about this game. So if you just buy it for the single player expirience, then your not getting your money's worth. All in All I enjoyed this game but, for me, it was over a little short, but the multi-play greatly makes up for that.
Rating: - SOCOM, I can't wait
"The following refers to the demo version (only the online part) of SOCOM, which I've played as part of a Network Adapter test for Sony back in April: I'd like to start off by saying that this is the best online game for any platform that I've ever played. Everything about the game is wonderful. The graphics, which you have probably seen already, are amazing. Though not quite up to the standards of GT3 or FFX, the few flaws and imperfections are nothing to complain about. There are 4 "landscapes" in the online version: jungle, forest, swamp, and winter. Gameplay is awesome, but it is third person shooter, no a FPS (at least in the online version I played). This may be changed, however, for the final release. Controls only took me one game to get used to. To switch to full automatic took me a while to figure out since I never read the manual (hit R3). To switch between prone position, a crouch, and standing position was easy; just press the triangle button. I'm so used to shooting with X that I just couldn't get used R1. Switching between primary and secondary was easy also, just hit L1. Equipment is sorted into three categories, primary, secondary, and grenades. The selection of weapons disappointed me a little, but there are different weapons depending on whether you are a seal or a terrorist. Primary weapons include snipers, rifles, and shotguns (about 2 of each); secondaries were all handguns and pretty much all the same; and and a choice between grenades or extra ammo. You can choose from 8 characters in the online part: 4 terrorists if you are on the terrorist team and 4 seals if you are a navy seal. The chat feature that you can use while waiting to start the game allows you to learn about your teammates and opponents, and you can even formulate plans right there. You can also use a headset to actually talk to the other players. Also, I wonder why the game only costs [price] on Amazon. I hope it comes with a headset.
Rating: - You'll Lose Yourself
Your palms get sweaty, knees weak arms grow heavy, could be vomit on your sweater already, ma's spaghetti. No, you arent rapping in front of 2 million, you're playing Socom. Several things come to mind for this game, best graphics, best simulation, most realistic, most well thought out, and most creative, plus most enjoyable. Folks, this one isn't easy. Don't buy it for your ten year old thinking little Jimmy will have something to do. It takes patience, concentration, and practice. It's real time action, and it isn't a fruit cake. As leader of a 4 man squad you go through various harsh conditions as a special ops team. Using your head phone set you help to give verbal commands to control your team, and you, through these killer missions. I am about half way through so far. Be careful, keep far away from children. Blood is the only mature thing about it, but theres plenty of it. It's a well thought out game, no doubt the best war game of them all. Game of the year for sure. You'll lose yourself, trust me. oh, and don't miss your chance to blow, this oppurtunity comes, once in a lifetime, don't miss this one guys.
