Average Rating: Rating: - BUY THIS CONSOLE! DON'T WAIT! BUY IT NOW! Sega has made the most amazing system ever with Dreamcast. I have been playing video games since the days of Final Fantasy 1, Space Harrier, Out Run and Donkey Kong, and I generally have very high expectations and a beleive-it-when-I-see-it attitude. I am an extremely tough person to astound but I must say Dreamcast is astounding. It is very powerful and very affordable (for being brand new - Playstation was $300 at launch, remember). The machine simply rocks. But what really matters - games right? of course. Sonic Adventure is the best adventure/platform game I have ever played. Soul Calibur is the most visually stunning game ever, and I'm talkin' game play not movies, game play. NFL 2k is the best football game ever, period. And there are more amazing games for the system. Plus, when Shenmue comes out it will changes the face of video gaming forever and it's exclusive to Dreamcast. The VMU is one of the coolest things in video game history, and the way the controller is designed for you hands is a beautiful thing. You've probably heard about PS2 but forget that for now, it's a year away. Also it runs at about 16 of 17 million polygons per second not the 75 million bs number that Sony was trying to tell people. Bottom line: It's worth your money and your time, don't wait, once you've experienced Dreamcast you won't ever play your old games again. Rating: - Bang for the buck! Sony or Sega? For those of you who are price oriented, you can't go wrong with the Dreamcast. Sony's machine is an awesome piece of hardware, but set it side by side and do a game comparison. Can you really see the difference in the quality of graphics? Soul Calibur vs. Tekken Tag? Nope. In fact Soul Calibur actually looks better. Sony's machine is newer, so of course it's supposed to be more graphically advanced, but the Dreamcast isn't a slouch in the graphics dept. either. Meanwhile, the games dept. is outstanding and growing day by day with multi-player online gaming (Quake III, NBA2K1, NFL2K1). It also has games in all genres, as well as games that can't even be classified because they're so unique and original (Jet Grind Radio, Seaman, Shenmue, Samba De Amigo...) Many people are complaining about the lack of RPG's, but they're coming (Skies of Arcadia, Grandia II, Phantasy Star Online) This holiday season, it's your choice. .... In conclusion, get the PS2 now if you've got money to burn, but realize the price is gonna drop when we see the likes of the Gamecube and X-box. Yup, new today, obsolete tomorrow. That's technology folks. Rating: - IT STILL ROCKS. Even though the mighty Sega Dreamcast was discontinued around August 2001, it remains my favorite gaming system even with the XBOX and PS-2 being wildly popular. The Dreamcast has 128-bit graphics which is still incredible and on the same powering level of PS-2. The game selection is excellent (Soul Caliber, Crazy Taxi, Shenmue, Mortal Kombat Gold, Dead or Alive 2 and a bunch of others) The Dreamcast controllers, despite looking awkward, are very comfortable to use with all the buttons and triggers in the perfect places which provides fast response. Another big plus is that the Dreamcast has 4 controller ports (Playing with friends on San Fransisco Rush 2049 couldn't be more fun!) The Dreamcast is very easy to hook up, plays music cds and has an optional phone jack where you can go on the net. I have never been more pleased with a video game console than with the Sega Dreamcast. Great games, Great power, great graphics and great features. What more could you want?
