Average Rating: Rating: - Emotional, well-acted and filmed, pass the tissues, please. I've seen this film more than 3 times and each time is just as wonderful as before. Easy to recommend as everyone that I've recommended it to has attested to it's excellence. No sex, or violence, but nonetheless, it is full of passion and excitement. We watch as a young boy befriends the projectionist and we easily get involved in the emotions of it all, as this relationship grows through the years. I've watched many a man shed tears on this one. The finale will appeal to all, and especially to those in love or have loved before. Some memorable scenes include the local priest who screens to edit out sexual content of films to be seen by the community. During the previewing, the ringing of a bell signals when to cut and to watch the priest get agitated when he begins to see what will most certainly lead to a "sexual" scene, albeit, only kissing, is really humorous. I enjoyed the acting as this film's characters were well played and authentic. The music was excellent as was the photography. It is easy to get involved in this movie, no matter what the gender or age, although 2-7 yr. olds might not appreciate the subtleties. Rating: - A CLASSIC AGELESS FILM This movie has been one of my favorite films ever since I first saw it in 1990.It had a perfect musical score, great acting and a magical quality.It perfectly embodied various themes: love for the cinema, remenbrance of our past, love for our father and mother ,or significant figures. It tried to portray remenbrance of that first significant adult love but in my opinion with less success. At the end of the movie you wondered why Elena , Toto's great love, had vanished. Now after watching the original director's cut I have to say that this is the real movie we should have seen. It's true that it is long, maybe too long, but now the storyline of Toto's great and eternal love for Elena is complete, it gives closure someway to this beautiful love story.In my opinion the final 20-25 minutes of this cut are simply magnificent, tears will probably come, watching two persons deal with facts that affected their lives forever.The movie is less magical but more realistic I hope the movie is rereleased in DVD in the USA with the two versions. You will truly enjoy it. Rating: - A boy learns to appreciate the movies! This movie is a whispering tribute to film making and the public who appreciate them. The story is simple, touching and thought provoking. A small town cinema in post World War II Italy is constantly censored by the local cleargy. Any remotely romantic scenes had to be cut. Imagine the disappointment of the regular patrons who wanted 'uncensored' entertainment! The cinema's projectionist befriends a young boy who is fascinated with showing films at the theater. -- I won't give away the ending, but I promise it's a sweet surprise! -- "Cinema Paradiso" won the 1988 Best Foreign Film Oscar, and rightly so. Enjoy this Internationally acclaimed gem!
