Average Rating:
Rating: - Easy to install, consistent connectivity
I received this wireless card as a gift with the Linksys wireless access point. This card was VERY easy to install in my IBM T21 laptop running Windows 2000. The Linksys wireless access point works great, but there have been a number of reviews on the difficulty configuring the Linksys card--we ran into similar problems after purchasing a Linksys Card for a second laptop in the house). After doing my own product comparison, I would highly recommend the NetGear wireless card over the Linksys card. For range of signal and ease of setup, the NetGear card is far superior. With the NetGear Card connectivity rarely drops, and I had no need to download additional drivers to install the card. When placed equidistant from the Linksys wireless access point, we'd see an Excellent Link Quality on the Netgear card Configuration utility, but on the similar utility on the Linksys card, we would see either poor or NO signal. This Netgear card is a fine product, I'm definitely enjoying the freedom of no wires while surfing the web.
Rating: - Pretty Good
A well designed card. It seems to have better signal strength than linksys' wireless card when used two rooms away from the WPC11 linksys base station. But, still not as good as orinco's wireless cards, since it doesn't have a plug for an extrenal antenna and since the drivers on the CD package didn't work (had to download from netgear's website)
Rating: - Great wireless card
I recently upgraded my computer network at home to Windows XP and also added a new computer, a laptop. Naturally I wanted to add a wireless network along with my laptop. I did a lot of searching on the net and decided to purchase a Siemens Speedstream (Efficient) wireless router and PCMCIA wireless card. I hadn't bothered to check to see if it was supported under WinXP. After 8 frustrating hours, I decided it wasn't (although the Efficient website does have XP drivers, I couldn't get them to work). Because it was a package deal, I had to send both router and card back.Another search and a new set of components: SMC Barricade wireless router and a Netgear MA401 PCMCIA wireless card. They set up without a hitch! Great products and installation software. Their websites also had a lot of information on how to configure for WinXP. Although the Netgear MA401 does not say it supports WinXP here on Amazon, the boxed unit I bought specifically says supports XP. The drivers were included on the install CDROM.
