Average Rating: Rating: - Dame Edna's racist comments Dame Edna, in the last issue of Vanity fair, made several disparaging remarks about Spanish speaking Americans. Hello...this is not the 1950's where you can get away with making these kinds of comments. NOT FUNNY! I hope some national Hispanic organization takes some action here. Conde Nast what were you thinking to publish this? Rating: - "Fair" Game Vanity Fair is one of the best magazines around. It has a fantastic combination of style and substance. As a reader we are treated to a constant barrage of ads from the elite fashion designers of our time combined in-depth articles from the elite writers of our time. David Halberstam, Dominick Dunne, and Sebastian Junger are all regular contributers. To finish it off, we are kept up to date on the latest gossip and events in "high society." It takes nearly a month to read an issue cover to cover and it is well worth the price of the subscription. Buy one issue from the rack and by the time you are finished, I guarantee you will be filling out the subscription form. Rating: - Not a magazine to throw out in a month Vanity Fair is like a favorite book that you will go back to from time to time. The articles are concisely and engagingly written and serve as the most in-depth account of many major events. The magazine does not get old as years pass by. In fact, recently I spend several hours on the floor of my college library reading issues from as far back as 1984, and found them as engaging as today's articles. I even used its Oct.'99 article about Pope Pius XII for my term paper. Perhaps one small downside to the magazine is that its cover stories on today's movie stars seem to be written by the star's publicists rather than by objective writers.
