Average Rating: Rating: - The men's magazine for "men of letters".... GQ is still the definitive men's style magazine, but it's also much more. The monthly mixology column is slowly helping me build a bartenders guide that is informative as well as useful, The Style Guy is keeping me from looking like an idiot, and the fiction and features are keeping me full of interesting stories to help me sing for my supper. The bottom line is this: if you want a magazine with guy advice... but don't want something as snarky or "hip" as Maxim or FHM then GQ has just the kind of class you're looking for. Rating: - Still a Solid Men's Magazine If your idea of casual day is pleated Dockers and a plaid shirt, you seriously need to burn your wardrobe and start a subscription to GQ. Here's a great guide to men's style that's up-to-the-minute but never trendy. There's a monthly q&a "The Style Guy" and there are many fashion spreads showing the latest trends for business or casual attire. I don't really pay much attention to the reviews or the fiction, but from a fashion standpoint, GQ really can't be beat. My only beef is that the only African Americans that grace the cover are athletes. They have the non-athlete every now and then, but it'd be nice to see more actors, models, and singers of colour grace the cover, too. All in all, this subscription is a sound investment for any man of style. Rating: - A Solid Foundation If a man came to me and said, "how can I be more intelligent, better dressed (without spending to much), and be more informed about everything from food and drink to politics and the obscure?" I would tell them subscribe to GQ immediately. In fact, go to the library and read the last six issues too. In a casual, non-descript world, where nobody pays attention to details anymore (especially here in VERY casual Oregon) GQ is a bit of an island. Esquire is a good men's magazine too, while most of the others are jokes. GQ, though, will improve you if you just let it. One final note... This has always been true, but especially in the last year, there have been some AMAZING investigative journalism stories and political profiles in this magazine. The one recently about John McCain especially stands out. It is sooooo much more than a fashion mag.
