Average Rating: Rating: - gourmet living I see that a lot of people are disappointed in the changes Gourmet magazine has made. I really enjoy Gourmet's broader focus on the enjoyment of food (cooked at home, or enjoyed out). My favorite feature is Road Food - which focuses on down-home (often roadside) food. I guess I would suggest this magazine to anyone who loves all kinds of food experiences, but if you are looking mainly for a recipe and cooking technique magazine, this may not be a good choice as your only subscription. Rating: - Gourmet is GREAT! This is a very satisfying read every month. I am the kind of person who looks for a lot more than recipes from a food magazine. Gourmet, like Cook's Illustrated and Fine Cooking, makes a significant effort to ferret out some wonderful stories from the culinary world, and I appreciate that distinction. Although Gourmet gets some criticism for the complexity of the recipes--not to mention some very oddball ingredients sometimes--the point is to challenge the proficient amateur cook, and on that score they succeed admirably. I like Gourmet for a lot of reasons--and at the low subscription price, I bet you will, too! Rating: - More than just a food magazine I have been a Gourmet subscriber for decades. I started getting Gourmet because I love to cook. I have stayed with the magazine because it is so much more than just a compilation of recipes. With all the food sites on the web and cookbooks galore, you can get recipes anywhere. What you can't get is the things that Gourmet gives - the places where food comes from, the way people in these places celebrate life through the food they serve their friends and families and the innovative things that cooks around the country do to make these cuisines their own. I hope to travel the world one day and celebrate other people and cultures through their food (and wine!). Gourmet and its wonderful writers and photographers help me go there now, if for only a little while.
