Average Rating: Rating: - The good and the bad on this "cool" cooler The good is that the cooler works great. I've used the cooler 4 times camping in Big Sur, Anza Borrego Desert, Sequoia, and Big Sycammore Canyon and the cooler keeps the ice for 5-days as advertised. My friend has to keep buying ice every 2 days to fill his plastic Coleman and Igloo coolers because he's got nothing but water left. The cooler also looks great and has sturdy handles to carry the cooler. On the bad side, my 6-year old daughter opened the door too far back and partially ripped the hinges off the lid. The lid didn't come off, but you can see the insulation in the lid around the hinges. This happened the second time I used the cooler, so I'm bummed. I'm just a little surprised that the lid ripped so easily. Also, the latch does not hold the lid tight shut, but this does not appear to affect the performance of the cooler in terms of keeping ice for 5-days. I do recommend this cooler. It's "cool" in terms of looks and performance! Rating: - Wimpy Latch We are frequently in bear country and thought this cooler would be good since it is stainless steel. Unfortunately, the lid can be pulled open even though it is "securely" latched. I called Coleman tech support and was informed that it is a child safety issue and the lid is designed to provide an air space and to be easily opened without opening the latch in case a child decides to dump out all your ice and food and take up residence in your cooler. It is a good idea if you have that type of children in the house - I don't. I am more concerned with black bears ravaging my campsite and trying to eat me. If you are looking for a bear resistant cooler, this is not the one. Rating: - JUST WHAT I'VE BEEN WAITING FOR! My parents had one these steel coolers when I was a kid. It was indestructable (compared to the wimpy plastic ones) and had that excellent clamp down latch. Ever since then I've wanted one like that and rued its untimely disappearance. When I saw that they were making them available again, I knew I had to have one.
