Average Rating: Rating: - An electronic masterpiece for lovers of Air, Royksopp etc... the title Disco and the fact that this is supposed to be a remix cd of Pet Shop boys- this is simply a stunning electronic cd which stands up on it's own. Here's a track by track rundown with marks in brackets out of 10: 1. Time On My Hands(10): Amazing dark, electronic sound Kraftwerk style and not to dissimilliar to obscure PSB classics like One Of The Crowd and We All Feel Better In The Dark(from Alternative- The PSB's Bsides cd) 2 Postive Role Model(10)- Barry White sample and cult song among PSB fan- a definitive hit if only it would be released as a single! 3 Try It(10)- Similiar sound to Royksopp's Remind Me and abother obscure PSB classic Miserablism. 4 London Remix(10)- Virtually no relation to the original track this is awesome stuff. 5 Somebody Else's Business(10)- A "normal song"- brilliant. 6 Here(remix)(10)- The best track on Release and a brilliant remix. 7 If Looks could Kill(10)- The 5th new track and more brilliance. (Perhaps should have had less of that bloody Cher effect though- will that never go out of fashion?) 8 Sexy Northerner(8)- Not quite in the same class as the original version(Home & Dry B Side). 9 Home & Dry (Blank & Jones Remix)(10)- The original is great and this remix is brilliant. 10 London(Genuine Piano mix)(8)- The only slow song here- a nice end. In short- a masterpiece!!! Rating: - Another diversion. If Neil and Chris could only put out a new cd as often as they've put out the Disco series the world would be a better place. First off, I'm not a fan of remix eps or albums. I prefer my pop/dance songs to have a beginning middle and end and not run on and on. That said, Disco 3 is passable. I certainly think it's better than its predecessor, Disco 2. I still think Disco 1 is the best of the series. On Disco 3, there are five originals and five remixes. Of the originals, I thought that "Try It (I'm In Love With A Married Man)" and "Somebody Else's Business" were the strongest material. The weakest being "Time On My Hands". Of the remixes, or alternate mixes, the strongest were "Here" and "London (Genuine Piano Mix)" with the weakest being "Home And Dry". The bottom line with the Disco series is that they are diversions for fans between Pet Shop Boys albums. If taken as a such, then Disco 3 can be quite enjoyable as background music at a party or drive to work. Rating: - Pet Shop Boys - Recently The latest, and allegedly last, of the Disco series, this authentic Pet Shop Boys experience differs from their other two remix albums in one significant respect. It's mostly new. Four of Disco³'s 10 songs are previously unreleased tracks, and represent the pure PSB sound that addicted many fans throughout the 1980's. An overall credible mix of songs written over the previous 20 years and recently re-engineered, Disco³ is a premium example of the best the Boys have to offer todays' dance-affected market. In their autumn years, the Pet Shop Boys have demonstrated their growth into music statesmen with the 'Closer to Heaven' stage production and the stylisticly refined 'Release'. Disco³, however, propells Neil and Chris back to their raw, dance-club roots. Remixed, reinvented tracks include the euro-wise 'London', the cozy 'Home and Dry' and the reassuring 'Here' from 'Release', as well as the possibly autobiographical b-side 'Sexy Northerner'. Of the new breed, the soulful 'Try It', the best song on the album, is an anthem of angst that sticks in the mind as well as the heart. Disco³ is a must-have for longterm fans as well as a springboard for initial discovery of the duo's ability to elucidate what's just below the surface. It is this collection of songs from disparate times, remixed by personalities throughout Europe, that accurately encompasses the Pet Shop Boys' 20-year career.
