Average Rating: 4.68 out of 5 stars

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - GENIUS
DANGEROUS is arguably Michael Jackson's most ambitious album to date. Overshadowed by the success of the previous two albums (especially THRILLER), DANGEROUS failed to receive the credit it definitely deserved.

The overall atmosphere on this album is noticably darker than on its predecessors (OFF THE WALL, THRILLER, BAD). The production is superb as always on MJ albums, but the sound is completely different than on his previous albums (mostly due to different producer/producers). The rhythms and grooves are quite loud and aggressive and they hold a strong grip on the album from the beginning of "Jam" to the very end of the title track.

With DANGEROUS it's pretty pointless to even attempt to list the standout tracks beacuse, above all, this album is a beautiful entity which it obviously was meant to be. There are absolutely no weak tracks on this album, which is a HUGE achievement with an album that lasts for almost 80 minutes! This is clearly some of the best material Jackson has ever written. There ARE quite a few hit singles on DANGEROUS, though, so if that's what you're looking for, you got it (Black Or White, Heal The World, Remember The Time, Will You Be There, Who Is It).

This new remastered edition, the album sounds even better and the clarity is incredible! Unlike on the other remastered MJ albums, DANGEROUS doesn't contain any extra tracks because there isn't any space left on the disc. This is 77 minutes of pure genius.

ESSENTIAL

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Pure Genius.
This is an amazing album, it differs so greatly from Michael's previous three, but still ranks up there with them. The thing I enjoy about this album is that has such varied material, and so much of it. Let's get started.

Jam- A lyrically powerful song, and also a good one to dance to. I had to read through the lyrics several times while listening because when I was just listening, I couldn't really understand what he was saying. Nonetheless, a good song.

Why You Wanna Trip On Me- This song has a fantastic beat and a good message. Michael uses a new vocal technique, and he pulls it off well.

In The Closet- This song is so incredibly sexy. It is great to dance to, and is probably one of his best.

She Drives Me Wild- You don't hear much about this song, but I really enjoy it. The title is pretty self-explanatory.

Remember The Time- I don't think I need to go too in depth with this song. It's one of his best known, and of course it's good.

Can't Let Her Get Away- I'm waiting for this one to grow on me. It's my least favorite on the album, but it is still high above all the garbage called music these days.

Heal The World- The album begins to slow down here. The previous six tracks were all fast dance numbers, and the sudden change is a treat. This song has sappy lyrics, but with Michael Jackson's voice and intentions, he sells it with grace.

Black or White- A complete commercial success, and for good reason. The lyrics and the beat set up an unbelievable hit. I could do without the intro.

Who Is It- I'm fascinated by this song. Who is he talking about anyway? He draws me in from the beginning on this one. A terrific song.

Give Into Me- Another great song. I absolutely love every second of it. Sexy, a little scary, and a bit depressing.

Will You Be There- When I first owned Dangerous, it was a cassette in elementary school. This was my absolute favorite song back in the day. It is a powerful song backed up by the Andrae Crouch Choir.

Keep The Faith- An amazingly uplifting song. Again, it's backed by the Andrae Crouch Choir. This is one of my favorite songs of all time.

Gone Too Soon- Reading the other reviews of this album, I find many disagree with the decision to put this track on Dangerous. It was written for or dedicated to Ryan White and I find that incredibly touching. Michael's voice is personal on this song and it provides a quiet, simple place on this very carefully engineered album.

Dangerous- The title track. A great song with a great beat. Lyrically it is also great. Michael Jackson has written many songs about girls, about girls who did him wrong, and what not, and this is by far the best one. It helps that he did an incredible dance number to this song on a few different programs.

All in all, this is a fantastic album teeming with amazing songs. You can't find an album like this nowadays. I highly recommend to any music fan, buy this album, and you will compensated with the first listen.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - He's dangerous, he's bad - and he's a king!
Michael Jackson is definitely one of the most powerful (and controversial) figures in popular music. Aside from the alleged sex abuse scandals, plastic surgery and countless other stories about him, he's made some of the most enduring music to be heard. _Thriller_ and _Bad_ are certified classic albums released during the 1980s. Entering the 1990s, he makes an updated, funky, catchy and addictive album with loads of dance grooves - without losing any of the emotion, passion and sincerity he always injects into his music. However, with the updated production, it still sounds like Michael Jackson...with all those hypnotic vocal nooks and crannies found lurking in many of the tracks, period!

Songs like "Jam," "Why You Wanna Trip On Me" and "Can't Let Her Get Away" are so funky and downright exciting and energetic, they should get many lovers of energetic dance grooves jumping. Sex-tinged numbers like "In The Closet" and "She Drives Me Wild" show off Michael's latent sexual interests. There's also diversity to be found (Michael always possessed a certain diversity.) Slower, poignant numbers like "Heal The World" and "Will You Be There" are almost certain to tug at your emotions. The former is mainly a "wordly" pop anthem with it's earthy, mellow melody. All this changes when the choir comes in near the end of the song and a pattern of two semitones are increased from the standard, backing keys twice during the song. The vocal/choiral crescendos send shivers down my body. The latter track some will recognize from the movie "Free Willy." Like the former track, it mostly begins softly featuring Michael's plaintive vocals, exotic percussion and the hushed vocals of a choir. Later, you know it'll progress to an emotional high, as Michael goes through this passionate and almost crying vocal performance, backed by the heavenly choir in full-effect by now. Both these tracks nearly send me to tears.
"Black Or White" is the big hit of the album featuring Slash (Guns N' Roses) on guitar. "Who Is It" has a somber atmosphere combined with a forcefulness that is downright sexy, and "Give Into Me" is a passionate, intense and smothering number featuring some keyboards (if not synthesizers) and fiery guitar licks.

I've always admired Michael Jackson and the music he's made, even with all the scandals, rumors and other stories that have bogged the airwaves. Let's hope he continues to make music for another 30 years or so.
