Average Rating: Rating: - Good CD It seems to me that Dar Williams has progressed and matured alot since the Honesty Room. Her voice, # of instruments, etc. This CD has some great arrangements. I especially like Closer to me, I saw a bird fly away, and fishing in the morning. Yet as i listen to the CD I find myself wanting to hear more of just Dar and her guitar, like in her early CD's. Sometimes less is more...But good pick overall. Give it a try! Rating: - I get to be first to review the new Dar!! The Beauty of the Rain, Dar William's 5th full-length album, is exactly like her first four: nearly perfect. I am confident that most people either know her and love her, or don't know her, or have heard her, but don't know themselves, so they don't think they like her (this third group would be people without souls,) I felt from track one that she had made the entire disc specially for me, and all the other Dar-lings out there will feel the same way, I am sure. Her website describes this album as somewhat of a departure from her normal MO as a girl alone with a guitar, and "Beauty" does include more, and more well-known, guest artists than any previous albums, including Alison Krauss and John Popper and several others, along with most of the band from "Green World", but as for her voice and her words, this album represents perhaps an evolution more than a departure. She is growing, as are we all, and the album is about knowing that you're growing, that change is good, change is the constant, life is about becoming more than just being. One gets the feeling that the lyrics may first have appeared in the margins of her copy of Alfred North Whitehead's Process and Reality. Rating: - Gre4t with a capital 4! Expertly-packaged with the latest in environmentally-friendly materials, this latest genre-busting offering from Dar shines with the beauty of fresh dewdrops on a rain-spattered windshield. There is a melancholiness about this CD, manifesting itself most prominently in the inner liner, which features a picture of Dar with an engagement ring on her finger, sure to be a disappointment to young lesbians everywhere. Bonus for fans of Blues Traveler: John Popper reprises his famous harmonica motifs in Dar's I Saw A Bird Fly Away with the exact same riffs - worth checking out!
