Average Rating: Rating: - True Character and Heart When Sherrie Rene Scott begins that timeless Every Story Is A Love Story, you are drawn into a world of love, betrayal, and unforgettable performances. Tim Rice and Elton John have produced a timely piece of Broadway history with Aida. The music found here is jolting and memorable and is orchestrated wonderfully. Adam Paschal (I'm a Rent head!) and Heather Headley are our star-crossed lovers, and their voices are some of the most powerful and thought provoking to have ever struck my ears. Adam Paschal proves his power in Fortune Favors the Brave, and as his character softens, the tone in his singing softens and goes with the story. The man has a talent, and uses it gracefully. Heather Headley has a beautiful voice and has many moments to use her voice. I have to mention her in Dance of the Robe, she's wonderful. Sherie Rene Scott is a wonder also. Her voice is powerful and fun (My Strongest Suit) and at other times, pierces your heart (I Know the Truth). I'm a fan of theatre and Broadway music stylings. I love it when true character and heart is put into song. True character and heart is exactly what you'll find in Tim Rice and Elton John's Aida. Rating: - Best Cast Recording EVER The original broadway cast recording of "Aida" blew me away. The music on this disc is incredible. From the gorgeous Egyptian-sounding flute at the beginning that brilliantly changes to fast paced rock, you can't help but but fall in love with this CD. This was the first CD I've ever bought where I like every song--I never feel the need to hit the skip button on my CD player. The performances heard here are phenomenal. Heather Headley well deserved her Tony as her vocals are INCREDIBLE. Adam Pascal is perfect for the part, his unique voice compliments the rock songs and the ballads wondefully composed by Elton John. However, the one person that really stands out to me on this CD that isn't receving the recognition she deserves is Sherie Rene Scott as Amneris. She has one of the most powerful and intoxicating voices I've ever heard. She does justice to the opening number, "Every Story is a Love Story" and rocks in "My Strongest Suit," "A Step Too Far," and "I kNow the Truth." Do yourself a favor and experience the best and most emotional cast recoding ever--Aida. Rating: - Fortune Favors the Brave In this big, bold and brave retelling of Giuseppe Verdi's "AIDA," composer Elton John and lyricist Tim Rice hit the ball out of the park. With a pop sound that is infectious, strong voices that include the best belters on Broadway, and a simple story that will move even the most hardened critic, this show will live a long-long time. I had never heard of Heather Headley before listening to "AIDA." Although she had played Nala in "Lion King" she was an undiscovered gem until AIDA's Broadway premiere. And, what a treasure was discovered! As this CD's AIDA, she rocks. With the intensity of a sledge-hammer, the soft-touch of a pixie and the control of Maria Calas, Headley embodies AIDA and delivers performances that jump out of this CD and into your lap. With a staggering 10+ songs (try doing that 8 times a week), Headley navigates through every emotion from fear ("How I know You"), to pride ("Dance of the Robe"), to love ("Written in the Stars"). Other AIDA notables include Sherri Rene Scott as Amneris and Adam Pascal as Radames. Scott, who plays both Amneris and the show's narrator delivers stand-out musical performances. Pascal deftly portrays a seriously-emotionally-messed-up guy. As with most of the better, newer, Broadway CDs, you will be able to follow the story-line through the recording and the enclosed book.
