Average Rating: Rating: - Still not convinced? Then see this girl live in concert... Yes, Susan Tedeschi seems too good to be true. She's a short, young white woman from New England with a wispy speaking voice. What on earth could she possibly know about the blues? Beats me, but one thing is for sure: when she opens her mouth to sing, and to play guitar, a wild fire of a blues mama somehow growls its way out. I don't know how it got in there (and I don't have to), but she'll make you so glad it's there. This is an excellent album full of flawless tracks, but her live performances are several notches higher on the intensity scale. I saw her perform the other day at SummerStage in NYC's Central Park (for free!). I really liked the album and was hoping for a good show; but during and after the show, I found myself simply in AWE of her (I even got her to sign my CD). Now this album has taken on a new dimension for me. I was saying to myself at the show "this is quite possibly one of the absolute best concerts I've ever attended", and I'll probably feel that way for a very very very long time. She's one of the best things out there today in any genre. Susan isn't about guitar playing or songwriting as much as she is about that VOICE. She growls, she whispers, she just lets it out. I don't know how long she'll be able to keep up that kind of singing, but women like Koko Taylor and Etta James have been able to keep it up for 40+ years running. I think Susan is in it for the long haul. She might never be a big star...but she'll have her fans forever. She is the real thing, inside and out. No gimmicks. Just hardcore blues. You'll love her live. She closed the show with an extended version of "It Hurt So Bad". I nearly wet my pants. SEE HER LIVE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Rating: - A very good effort "Just Wont Burn" is a solid effort from Ms. Tedeschi. Well in my opinion there are no weak points, nothing really jumps out and makes you take notice. I'm not saying that it is a bad album, any song can be a hit, but there isnt that one megahit to blow your mind. The title track is a good down and dirty slow blues song. "Rock Me Right" gets the album off to a good rockin start that latter on, "Mama He Treats You Daughter Mean" continues. "It Hurt So Bad" is a good song that Susan gets to show off her voice. On parts of the album, she comes off sounding like Bonnie Raitt which isn't a bad thing. It is a solid enough effort, and once you listen to it, you will enjoy it. I can say that I am waiting to hear more of this artist in the future. Rating: - Wow, what a GREAT album I am not sure I would say sounds like Janis, but she definatly gives that same kinda vibe. Tracks like "Just Won't Burn" and and "Lookin' for Answers" are quintecential blues ballads, which are ofset by AMAZING blues rock like "Hurts so Bad" and "Friar's Point." This album NEVER leaves the CD changer in my car. There are some technical things on this album that could be considered "bad." Some of the levels are a little off, and the solos are a little sloppy sometimes, but it gives the whole thing a really raw vibe that just kicks. I have seen her live in concert and also seen a webcast and she is phenominal. Some bands sound nothing like their albums, because the album is too produced and tweaked too much. Susan sounds JUST like this live. That doesn't mean she plays these songs note for note every night, it just means this is an accurate representation of her talent. I cannot WAIT for her next album, and the next, and the next, and the... Hey! I'm gonna need a bigger CD changer!
