Average Rating: Rating: - Shakira Live On Unplugged WOW! Shakira's "MTV Unplugged" album shows off her strong, powerful voice. I loved her last two albums and this album really showed how talented she is performing live. She changed the tempo and music of some of her songs during her live performance such as in "Estoy Aqui" and "Ciega, Sordomuda". Nevertheless, they stand out just as much as the studio versions. All fans of Shakira should purchase this album. Her live performances of the songs really show they come from her heart such as "Inevitable" and "Tu" that are not heard in her studio versions. My favorites, besides the songs I already mentioned, are "Si Te Vas" (I love how she sings soft in the beginning and gives it her all at the end) and "No Creo" (she slows it down a bit compared to the studio version but it makes it much better). Shakira is a powerful singer and songwriter with a unique voice and all her talents are shown in this wonderful disc! Rating: - A wonderful collection... For people unfamiliar with Shakira, this album released in 2000 is a wonderful taste featuring selections from albums of hers like "Pies Descalzos." I have heard people draw comparisons with her and Britney Spears but this is an inaccurate statement. If you buy this album expecting a Britney-sound-like who speaks Spanish you will undoubtedly be very disappointed. Unlike Ms. Spears, Shakira Mebarek not only sings, but plays guitar and writes and produces most of her own music. She collaborates on the stuff that she does not produce or write herself alone. Long before the release of her English-language album "Laundry" she has long been known in Latin music for her talent and wonderful music. I am sure that there will many reviews of this written in Spanish, and while I could write this in Spanish (Soy una gringa, pero estoy puedo hablar y escribir en espanol) I am writing this in English for all the gringos out there who don't speak Spanish. It helps to know Spanish to better understand Shakira's lyrics, but if you don't you can still appreciate a great live compilation of her songs. Enjoy!! If you like this album I would greatly recommend checking out her earlier albums or other great Latin acts like La Ley or Mana. Escucha! Rating: - I will keep an eye on her I usually like unplugged recordings because an artist really show what (s)he has inside when (s)he is in a live situation with a basic orchestration possibility - no computer tricks. This one makes no exception. I enjoyed the way Shakira mixes Latin and oriental vibes with pop and rock. It creates a rich and varied sound, and it stands out today's marketed pop standards. I have not heard the studio version of those songs (yet), so I can't compare, but live they sound energetic and original. If I have to pick favourites I would say "Octavo Dia", "Moscas en la casa", "No Creo", "Ojos asi" and "Inevitable" but I do not skip any track. I stumbled upon this album in my Amazon recommendations once. Shakira is (yet?) unknown in my corner of the world, so I hesitated for a while before purchasing anything from her. What raised my interest was Amazon comment that "Sarah McLachlan and Alanis Morissette fans might be in for a surprise" because I happen to like both. I was not disappointed. If the voice is somewhere between Sarah and Alanis, in the end I would not insist on the comparison. Shakira has a strong personality shining through her lyrics and her interpretations. She does not need to be compared to anyone, she has what it takes to build up her own niche. This is one of the interesting artists I discovered in 2001 and will keep an eye on in the future. I am also planning to purchase her earlier spanish albums.
