Average Rating: Rating: - For Something So New, It Got Old Fast I liked this CD the first five times I listened through it. After that, all the songs started to sound the same and I realized how annoyiong her voice got. Her lyrics are less than original and no where near creative. Doesn't really take a genius to rhyme 'red' with 'head.' Example: "My cheeks are turning red" to "I'm searching for the words inside my head" (taken from Things I'll Never Say). The beat gets repeatitive. And what really ticks me off is the fact she yodels in "I'm With You." If you can't carry a note for that long, just soften it up or edit it out. Don't butcher a good song by sounding like you have the hiccups. Note to all those judging her image: This isn't a picture. It's a CD. A CD has music on it. Listen to the CD before you critize (sp?) the music and artist. So what if she says she's punk and doesn't sing it, she can say she's a donkey for all I care. She's a singer, not a role model. It's the music that counts anyways. Rating: - ignorant people. Listen up. I'm going to prove all the people defending the "punk princess" posuer known as Avril Lavigne wrong. She does claim to be punk. I've heard her say it in interviews, although she seems to change her mind every time. Example: In one interview she said she was awesome at skateboarding, in another she said she sucked. Isn't that odd? I guess making up her mind just doesn't come easy to the rebellious type. If you don't believe me, read her biography on her website. She claimed to be a "skater punk" band. Of course, the record-company probably changed it because it's probably not cool to be a sk8er punk anymore. To the person who wants Avril to play more hardcore punk ): I think it's hilarious that you expect the new britney to turn hardcore. Do you even know what hardcore is? Not Avril, that's for sure. Go get Minor Threat and tell me how much they sound like Avril. That's hardcore foo. :) Rating: - Underwhelmed It takes more than a wifebeater and a tie to be unique. I'll give her credit for what's done here and she does show some promise, but it's too mediocre to warrant the down-our-throats marketing treatment she's been getting. When I think Skate-punk, I think CKY, Operation Ivy, and possibly even the Descendents. Avril Lavigne is a POP ARTIST. The lyrics are banal (especially "Sk8er Boi") and the vocals sound like Alanis Morrissette's kid sister. Yeah, it sounds like I'm being too harsh cause Avril was 16 or 17 when she recorded this, but so was Debbie Gibson when she recorded "Out of the Blue" and she had a rock-solid grasp of how to write a pop song. Avril Lavigne is every bit a product of marketing as Britney Spears, and at least Britney's songs were catchy.
