Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Watson made me a convert
After watching Star Trek's newest incarnation, Enterprise, and hearing Russell Watson sing the theme for the first time, curiosity drove me to buy Encore, and from the first track I was hooked! This young tenor has a voice that can enthrall you with its sheer power, and he can shift most comfortably from classical to pop tunes. The first time I heard him sing "Bohemian Rhapsody" I almost fell out of my chair because he made that song his own while at the same time using his wonderful talent to pay homage to those who originally recorded it. That made me all the more impressed with the classical songs that make up most of the rest of the album, tunes like "Va, Pensiero" and "Ave Maria". Until I bought Encore and listened to it for the first time I wasn't really into classical music at all, but Russell Watson has made me an instant convert.

Here's hoping that this young British tenor will do the same for you, too.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - I'm sold on Watson
I only bought this album to record a couple of tunes for my parents to play at home "Che gelida manina" and "E lucevan le stelle".

I was just stunned by his other voices. His pop voice for "Is Nothing sacred" and his smooth semi-classical voice for "Somewhere". All sounding so warm and natural.

At first I was surprised that his singing of pop-rock tunes was listenable, unlike other classical singers. But it was more than listenable. Every note sung as a rock singer.

Watson, in Va, pensiero, for example, goes from a Sting-like voice to an operatic tenor, all in the same song. After hearing this record, I made it a point to follow this singer and wait for any concert appearances. His jumping from opera to pop in such a smooth transition is some recording feat. I'm sold.

I like music videos and rock and pop tunes. But I'll never listen to the modern artists the same way anymore. I'll judge them by Russell Watson's talent.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Discovered classical music AND Watson
I haven't been aware of Russell Watson's music, and never even seen the man on TV. I attended a party recently given by the parents of a friend of mine--like me a twenty-something girl and they were playing some opera music which sounded fine, but we all shrugged since we're not into this high-brow music. Then we heard Lionel Richie and some other singer sing "Magic of Love".

The next song was "Bohemian Rhapsody", and I asked my friend who this singer was. She replied, the same one you've been hearing all night, Russell Watson. I was somewhat shocked. An opera singer singing pop-rock in an entirely different voice.
God! What a melody, what a voice, what a song! This opera singer sounded like one of the rock stars from England and I asked my friends parents what the name of this album was and would they repeat the singer's name. They laughed because they saw me roll my eyes when the operatic arias were sung but, they said that I would be addicted tothis singer and Watson will make you love opera.

They're right. I bought this CD and now I'm looking for other Cds from this stunning singer with a myriad of voices.
All the songs on this CD are great, but "Is Nothing Sacred" and "You Are So Beautiful", because of its lyrics, had the biggest impact on me. Also, I am listening to classical music, something I've never done before.

I have discovered Watson and am so happy about it. I am so looking forward to seeing him in concert.
