Average Rating: Rating: - A Great Set of Almost-New Songs I am not a fan of remixes. The only reason I got this CD was that I heard the remix of Destiny on the radio. I immediately went out and bought this CD after listening to Simple Things. Wow. The songs on this CD are almost totally new. The beats are new, the tones are new, the only things that are the same are the lyrics. The only downside to this album is the fact that there are only 5 remixes of 4 songs. The best two by far are the "In the Waiting Line" remix and the "End Theme" remix, though all of them are excellent. A highly recommended album for fans of Zero 7. Rating: - Even though we're miles apart... ...I can still tell you that anyone who is a fan of 07 and hasn't been relentlessly tracking down all associated import CD singles for the 'Simple Things' full-length release, will be fairly blown away by these remixes. Some of my least favorite remix projects are composed of different remixes of the same few songs (typically in maxi single form), since most remixologists working today don't seem to strive for a new arrangement as much as they do picking out the hook and essentially looping it over a shuffled & tempo altered version of the track with a new effect or two stripped into the mix. Sometimes that treatment really works well. Most of the time though, the effect is one of hearing the SAME cuts over and over again. The Simple Things remix project is an entirely different animal in this regard. All one has to do is queue up the Richard Dorfmeister reworking of Distractions, then skip to the Madlib version to understand that these are not so much 'remixes' as they are 're-imaginings' of each track with all the mixes taking on a decidedly unique feel. In addition, the video for Destiny is included, which is a great clip. So, why only 4 stars? I actually would've made it 3 1/2 if I could for the following reasons. 1. Only 5 audio tracks. (albeit with a reasonable price point) 2. Most, if not all have been previously issued on singles. 3. There will a Zero 7 OR Palm Pictures DVD released at some point that will include the Destiny video. So... for long standing fans, all content here is extraneous, unless you're a completist, or are just discovering the full-length version of Simple Things. (In which case I envy you) Having said that - it would be next to impossible to find a collection of 'extraneous' tracks that's this well produced and this fun to listen to.
