Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - DEFINITELY 'IN THE MOOD' ON THIS ALBUM
Any Rush fan, well rock fan come to think of it, must own Moving Pictures, one of the finest hard rock albums of all time. Released when the band were at their prime musically and commercially, it brilliants combines the changing musical style of the early 80's (the new wave 'electro' sound) with their distinctive hard rock sound. 'Tom Sawyer' is an all-time classic (I swear Geddy plays a Rickenbacker bass on this track, but apparently not), the production is near perfect, and Alex doesn't push the boat out too far with his guitar playing, showing you don't need complicated complex solos and arrangements to write good music. Neil's drumming is as good as its ever been, he is quite simply the finest ever at his trade, and makes it look so easy! His lyrics aren't too bad either! And what about Geddy? In my opinion an examplary musician, the best bass player of all and distinctive voice to boot. Lyrical content includes 'the cultural and social impact of the car and its metaphor for freedom and sexuality' in 'Red Barchetta' (Neil's words not mine!), the medias role in society ('The Camera Eye'), the pressures and excitement of the 'Limelight' and the part that 'ignorance and prejudice' plays in peoples lives ('Witch Hunt'). A near-perfect album which has deservedly achieved quadruple-platinum status in the US, showing that high-quality music is very much appreciated in a very fickle industry. Geddy, Alex and Neil are the finest trio of all, and one of the best-selling bands of all time. Westlife, hang your heads in shame!

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - I would not change 1 second of it. A rock master-work.
When we try to name the very best Rock albums ever released, we generally hear titles like 'Are You Experienced?','Sgt. Pepper',etc. Well- add 'Moving Pictures' to that list- to the top of it. It is a rock master-work, as unique and fresh as Hendrix and smarter and 1000 times more virtuostic than anything the Beatles or Stones ever dreamed of recording. The recording itself is a benchmark- sounding lean, clean, and aggressive -yet full. The music strikes a balance between painstaking quality craftsmanship and spontaneous sonic flights! Each song is quite different, yet no track is weak, and the album still has a very cohesive feel to it. It's simply a staggering CD start to finish. Tom Sawyer- have you ever really listened to the drum work here?! That's what I mean by craftsmanship. Limelight- If Rush has a mission statement, it's Limelight. Camera Eye- best vocal/bassline marriage ever through the verses. YYZ- Rush virtuosity and just plain fun. I could go on and on... If you're new to rock or to Rush, or have somehow overlooked this CD- it is essential to own.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - The Camera Eye is on RUSH
Beautifully crafted album. Commercial on one side; and deep enriching album tracks that you'll never hear on the radio on the other side. "Tom Sawyer" started out as an exercise with sound effects. Geddy Lee in his ultimate wisdom turned a hunt & peck typing lesson into an international hit. "Red Barchetta" is a great song with a great melody - but more interesting are the lyrics & story line. "YYZ" is a great rocking instrumental. "Limelight" is a slower paced rock song, but it is meaningful in lyric none-the-less. I was so intrigued with this song when it came out, I used part of the lyrics in my high school yearbook quote. The last 3 songs (in the old days) took up the flip side of the album. Rarely have any of these 3 songs seen the light of day on the radio. They are classic RUSH tho. "Camera Eye", "Witch Hunt", and "Vital Signs" are all wonderful soungs chock full o' sound effects, subtleties, guitars fading in & out, and more of Neil Peart's wonderful lyrics. Outside of "Moving Pictures" predecessor, "Permanent Waves", this is RUSH's most complete work of art. RUSH went global with this album and for good reason.
