Rating: - He should be [silent]!
This CD desecrates some wonderful classics. He should stick to what he knows. This is not it - go back to rock and roll.
Rating: - The reviewers have it wrong..GREAT ALBUM!!!
I read most of the other reviews in here of this album. I seriously think that what Rod Stewart possesses is the ability to make music sound more heart felt with his type of voice and the way it is presented. This is a great album. He sings these songs by adding his own interpretation to it, while staying true to the arrangements and vocal stylings of that era of music. I'm 29 years old, have listened to all the greats of this genre, and think this album is the best by ANY performer Iv'e heard. That said, the people who review this material should have another listen..I don't get how someone can say Rod can't sing, or doesn't posess one of the better voices in music..The problem is, most artists today DO NOT posess their own distinct sound and that is why Rod has been around for years..He does have a distinct voice and THAT makes him a true performer..Thanks for your time!
Rating: - Pleasant Take on Timeless Classics
Imagine Barry Manilow singing "Tonight's the Night" or "Do You Think I'm Sexy?" Flip that around and imagine Rod Stewart singing "Mandy" or "I Write the Songs." That's pretty much what you have here- Rod Stewart as you have never heard him before. This is a great collection of classic standards redone by the legendary raspy-voiced Rod Stewart. He's not quite in Manilow territory yet, but getting close. The album is pleasant enough, with some great arrangements, but nothing spectacular or breakthrough here. But it is a departure from the norm for Stewart, which, in this case, is a good thing. Saxophonist Dave Koz, backing Stewart on many of the tracks, gives the album a better than average feel. Frank Sinatra it ain't, but it is pleasing to the ear, and it is nice to hear Stewart's distinctivly unique voice giving new life (and hopefully gaining a new audience) to some timeless songs, like "It Had to Be You", "Everytime We Say Goodbye", "The Way You Look Tonight", "The Nearness of You" and "They Can't Take That Away From Me." A good album for all Rod Stewart fans, and those longing for a little nostalgia.
