Average Rating: Rating: - An upbeat different sound I bought this soundtrack after seeing the movie. The movie was a joy to watch and part of the joy was the music. I've never listened to Indian music before, and don't know what I would think of this outside of the context of the movie. It reminds me of new age music, but with more ethnic color. At least one song also sounds a little Latin American. So it's a great mix of types, I'm already familiar with and like, but different because it's Indian. Some songs are very danceable tunes that sound quite techno! Someone who likes upbeat foreign music and pop would enjoy this. I love it for the unique sound and, upbeatness. It's something to put the convertible top down for! I wish the CD package had more information about the songs and which scenes in the movie they're from (which is primarily why I only gave it 4 stars and not 5). I'll have to see the movie again. Rating: - I couldn't leave the theatre until the last note was played! When I saw the film I couldn't resist dancing in my seat. Call me crazy, but the music just made me want to move. And the lyrics, they were so heady! While my head didn't know what was being said, my heart understood the soaring vocals. My favorite songs are Baraat and Aaj Mausam Bada Beimann Hai. I remember exactly when Aaj Mausam Bada Beimann Hai was played in the movie and it really fit the scene. I knew instantly that my CD collection would not be complete without this incredibly exciting soundtrack. To tell you the truth I stayed all the way until the end of the movie just so I could hear every last note that was played! Rating: - A rip-roaring Indian party album The wait is over! The soundtrack to Monsoon Wedding captures the spirit of the ultimate Indian party, that of a Punjabi wedding, with a mixure of bhangra, Indo-techno, and Indian chillout music to boot! The lead vocal track Aaj Mera Jee Kardaa by one of the greatest Punjabi male vocalists is a percussive standout and I actually think the "classical" ending works. Someone should do an extended remix of this track (the CD coincidentally includes a "Zimpala Remix" which is a downtempo, chill-out version). My personal favorite, however, is Chunari Chunari, an uptempo, male-female duet, with soaring melodies, crystal vocals, chugging nicely to a housified beat. The dance classic Aaja Nachle by Bally Sagoo feat. Hans Raj Hans keeps the feet dancing and when they're not, the two downtempo remixes of Fuse Box and the rest of the soundtrack make up the perfect accompaniment to take in all the delights of an Indian wedding.
