Average Rating: Rating: - Not surprising for Yanni. Y? Cuz its awesome! In response to the review by Robert D. Timmerman: I recently read a user review on Yahoo that was just plain cruel to Yanni. And boy, did I give that person a piece of my mind on my review. I appreciate your honest opinion and not overdoing the critism. However, in my opinion, this album will do just the opposite. It's one of my favorites, and a welcome change (as I found "If I Could Tell You" somewhat lacking energy). My advice is listen to the music more closely. I enjoyed the vocals, but it is quite easy to see how it could bother people. Think of the vocals as just another musical instrument like the violin or flute, which shouldn't be too hard since only 2 songs have understandable lyrics. And the drum machine isn't stale...its called "techno/trance." The best way to enjoy this kind of music is to listen to how each instrument fits and compliments eachother perfectly. Ethnicity: WOW! This is cool! Upbeat yet relaxing, aggressive yet smooth...not an easy task. I especially like the lyrics to Almost a Whisper. Yanni also explores new ground as he uses the celtic musical style for the first time. Ever-so-present are the oriental accents, but the most surprising is his increased use of "techno" elements, which include the energetic drums to electronic instruments we'd all thought Yanni would never touch. Highlights go to Play Time and For All Seasons(using a good deal of techno elements) and Rainmaker for the didgeridoo, which I enjoyed a lot. I still can't stress enough how cool the electronic instruments in the background are... Then again, that wouldn't be too fair since all the tracks are great and you just have to listen for yourself (and be amazed :-) ) Rating: - Yanni has turned to being a Yawning....sorry Don't get me wrong, I have been a fan of Yanni for quite a while, but, this CD...well, the whole album (CD) seems like one long musicial piece. I play music myself and love new age as well as many other styles of music. His earlier works were more fulfilling to me. It seems he made this CD only because of his name not his talent, which I know he has. The singing is a bit much, the woman sounds the same thru every song. Sure, it is upbeat, but, it is not as creative as his past ventures. ... Rating: - Yanni Has a New Sound and Group When I first started listening to Yanni about 12 years ago, his music was about himself and he played the music. The album, while it does have its moments, will likely go down as his least popular. The vocals need to go. Yanni is not about singing....he is about playing. Tracks 1 thru 4 seem to be filler tracks. This album starts to take shape with track #5...Written on the Wind....and seems to go in a totally different direction that the first 4 tracks. I will not even review those as I found myself wanting them to end. This is not the music Yanni fans have grown to love. While the album is technically sound, the drum machine is stale and Yanni needs to get Charlie back A.S.A.P. Now don't get me wrong, I am still a Yanni fan, but I do not see Him doing many of these tracks in concert as they seem more for his personal taste than for breaking any new ground. The DVD that comes along with the disc is a welcome site, but it is from a concert years ago, when Charlie was still drumming for him. After listening to this album it will make you long for the old days when Yanni and his drummer, Charlie, played the music.....not sing it. Judge for yourself.....its NEVER TOO LATE.
