Average Rating: Rating: - What a bitter disappointment! As a life long Beatles fan, I can't begin to express my disappointment with this new release. I had hoped that this would be an opportunity for young people to hear how good the Beatles sounded to us older fans when these songs were originally released as singles. However, for the most part, the selections on this cd are not the original mono single versions, they are the same sloppy stereo outtakes that EMI has been foisting on us for the last 30 years. How could anyone who was not alive in 1964 listen to "I Want to Hold You Hand" on this CD and understand why this song changed so many peoples' lives? It sounds like it was recorded in someone's bathroom. As for the stereo versions of "I Feel Fine" and "Paperback Writer", they are painfully bad. This CD is just another way for EMI to make a few more bucks off of the memory of the greatest musical group ever. Fellow Beatles fans, I urge you not to be taken in. Do NOT waste you money on this worthless package. Hold out until the powers that be at EMI relent and give us either the original mono versions of these songs or newly remixed stereo versions. Rating: - Top Feeding This was a wonderful collection of many of the songs that I grew up with and wistfully placed on a higher plane of music than a lot of the tripe released today I realize it was an authorized collection of Number One hits, but this collection didn't always explore the depths and reach of the Beatles material. Somehwere out there the has to be a collection of the songs that actually made many differences in my life (granted, that doesn;t mean that most people would have the same personal "hit list". All in all, this was a wonderful collection, and I would purchase it again (It might turn out to be a great tool for informing my 17 year old daughter about the group that actually opened rock and roll to broader dimensions--without me just jabbering to her about it). On a scale of 1-10, I would give it an 8.5 Rating: - How can you not like the BEATLES??? I was not born until 1970 but there is no one that can deny the impact the Beatles had upon America. This CD is long overdue and while I may not LOVE every song, there is such nostalgia that you simply cannot overcome. This is truly a must have to anyone who likes any type of music. The Beatles are a classic and transcend decades of strive.
