Average Rating: Rating: - All Around Good Thermostat If you have the old standard round thermostat, you'll notice a big change. Our central air had wide temperature swings until we installed this unit; it was either too cold or too warm. Now the temperature is comfortable at all times. Everyone in my family really noticed a big improvement and we wish we had switched to this unit long ago. Installation is fairly easy. The toughest part is connecting the wires to the screw terminals, but Honeywell designed it so you don't need to curl the wires around the shaft of the screws - you just shove each wire into a channel and tighten the screw. The directions are well done and won't leave you wondering if you did it right. Programming it is easy; Monday-Friday has one setting and Sat-Sun can have a different setting. The plate that attaches to the wall is kind of flimsy and doesn't hold the thermostat tightly against the wall - there's a little movement when you press the buttons which gives it a cheap feel. But all in all it is a good thermostat that is a huge improvement over the old round one. It was well worth the fifty dollars we paid. Rating: - Not-so-Hot Termostat This thermostat was easy to install, though you will have problems connecting it if the wires coming from the wall are short. The unit's programming functions are uninspired. There is a set calendar of week days (Mon.- Fri.) and weekend days. So, if you work Tues. - Sat, you're out-a-luck. For the week days, you can set times and temps. for waking up, leaving for the day, returning and/or going to bed. For the weekend, you only get waking and sleeping settings. This rigid schedule does not take into account that you may stay-up later on Friday night (because it's the weekend), and that you are not likely to stay up late on Sunday (because it's a work night). Rating: - A very good product I have been working as an HVAC tech for 11 years now and Honeywell is the only Thermostat that I will recomend. If you are thinking about this Thermostat you will not be dissapointed. It is far more accurate than a standard T87 round stat and it is reliable. Be aware this will work on a gas furnace or oil furnace with AC . It will not work on a heat pump for a heat pump you will need a Honeywell model T8611 Cronotherm III . All in all this is a very good thermostat .
