Average Rating: Rating: - Great Planer This is the first portable planer I have used and it rivals the big stationary shop planers. Have used it on oak, maple, cedar and pine and the only problem I had was minor chipping around knots in the cedar, but I don't know that this wouldn't happen with other machines, cedar is pretty brittle. The maple and oak went thru like butter. I would recommend the DeWalt to anyone looking for such a tool, great machine! Rating: - Quality Planner Have been woodworking about 20 years now. Purchased the DeWalt 733 Planner over two years ago and it's still running strong. Easy to use operation, adjustments are very accurate. I really like the thick large planner knifes which allow for many resharpenings. Have run through well over 800 board feet of hardwood lumber, mostly red oak and not a single problem with this DeWalt Planner. I keep an extra set of knifes always ready for a quick change of blades, which I might add is fairly easy to do. Thanks DeWalt, this is a heavy-duty workhorse in my woodshop. The model 733 allows me to keep the price of fine hardwood lumber down to a reasonable cost since I purchase all my lumber from a indenpendant sawmill. Rating: - It broke after two uses I received the DeWalt planer [...] one week ago. Took it out of the box and proceeded to plane 1x10 rough cut oak floor boards. The planer works great! It planed the boards as advertised. Snipe is non-existant. I worked for maybe two hours and called it a night. The next day I raised the planer to the top to clean out the insides. I then lowered it into position for the first board. I noticed that there was rust forming on the rods that the motor slides up and down on. I can not explain how this happened. The oak was rather wet, but still..totally unexpected. I lowered the motor below the 1 inch mark and the darn thing froze. The Level used to raise and lower the motor would not turn without and enormous amount effort. It was almost like the lock was in place, but it wasn't. I tried to lude the shafts and worm gears with WD-40 thinking maybe some sawdust got into them. No Luck. My best assesment is that either the threads on the worm gears are cross threaded or somehow pitch from the oak gummed it up. Either way this is totally unacceptable. I have my living room torn up. My wife is going to be mad. I tried to call DeWalt but they close at 5pm est. I didn't know there were still companies that didn't live on internet time. This is/was my first Dewalt purchase, it will probably be my last. I usually buy Makita, they always seem to handle the abuse. I should have gotten a Makita.
