Average Rating: Rating: - JET AFS-1000B What can I say? This unit does what the company says it will do, and it does it without any problems. It was easy to hang and is easy to use with the remote control. The electrostatic filter truly does its job. As a result of static electicity being generated by the moving air, tremendous amounts of fine dust finds itself trapped on the blanket-like material on the outside of the filter. It is very easy to clean also, just a quick shop vac job and it's clean again. I had no problem with this unit being out of square as others have reported. I found it to be in perfect condition right out of the box. Highly recommended by me. Rating: - The extra features make it stand out This Jet air filter is a must for anyone's workshop. It really has two big advantages over some of the other models. The remote control is extremely handy and the "timer" mode is also nice. You can set it for 2, 4 or 6 hours, after which it shuts itself off. The air is noticeably cleaner in my workshop and I'm sure my lungs will appreciate it over the long run. No, it's not exactly quiet on the "high" setting, but I'm sure it's not any noisier than any other filter and I'm usually using a noisy tool when I operate it on high anyway. In my two-car garage on high, it takes about 10 minutes to rid the air of the majority of sanding dust. I use this in tandem with my 1.5 hp dust collector - they both serve their purpose well. The Jet has become a necessity. Besides being good for your lungs, it's great for putting a finish on a project - you can set the timer on 4 or 6 hours when you leave the shop, and the next morning the air is clear so you won't have dust particles settling while you apply a finish. Someone complained about the distance between centers on the mounts. Here's the scoop. The top holes (on mine) which are meant for ceiling mount, come to 15 ¼" and 24 ¾", depending on which way you mount it. This is close enough to 16 and 24 inch center rafters, which are rarely on center anyway. I had no trouble mounting it hanging from the ceiling. The other mounts, meant for wall mounting, are on 17 ½ inch centers. This is a little off for 16 inch studs, but two quick holes drilled in the sheet metal, and you can easily put it right on 16 inches. The outside filter doesn't fit perfectly on mine, and this may be partly from the abuse by UPS delivery. It hasn't really been a problem though. Some advice for hanging it on the ceiling if you're doing it by yourself: Mount the hooks with two at one end 90 degrees out from the other two. Hang it on two, and then rotate it on to the other two. It will make the job much easier (and safer). Rating: - The Best Shop Addition When I received my air filtration system it was in perfect working order. The box looked as though it had been thrown around in shipping quite a bit but you know some of those shipping companies. I hooked it up and hung it from the ceiling with ease. There is no better air filtration system for the simple fact of the remote control. I have taller ceilings than most modern homes and to pull a chain like you get on all other systems could have been difficult for me. I absolutely love the remote. I keep it near the shop door and turn the machine on when I walk in and do not turn it off till I leave. If I have been sanding a lot I usually run the timer as I leave. The 650 CFM is plenty for my shop. It measures about 25' x 20'. I have recommended this system to many of my woodworking buddied and they have had absolutely no problems with it either. I have one friend with the Delta and she is thinking about getting the JET becasue of the extra features it offers over all other systems.
