Average Rating: Rating: - I love this thing! This is a great tool! I resisted for a long time. How could this little thing run with the big dogs and it seemed a little pricy too. Wrong! It is worth every penny! I finally tried one out in the store, and it convinced me. It really convinced me when I put it to work on a deck. It will work the chucks off of most drills for putting in deck screws, and it does it almost effortlessly. You won't build muscles with it because it is so light weight, and you don't have to "push hard" either. But then you won't be having arm cramps from wrestling those big boomer drills all day either - and the job goes faster. Wear your ear plugs. It is a little loud. Finally, remember that this is an impact wrench that drives screws, and it does that very well, with or without a pilot hole. Yes, you can drill holes with it, but that is not its primary appeal. If you really need to drill a lot of big holes, go for the big drills - there's a place for them. This little Makita doesn't pretend to displace them for drilling the big holes. You'll also have a keyless chuck, a clutch, etc, and you'll probably win those arm wrestling contests in the pub after work. But at the end of the work day, the guy with the little Makita will have put in more screws, maybe not drilled more holes, but... Let this baby do what it does best, and you'll have the best of both worlds (and this little thing will out torque even those big 18 and 24 volt monsters when it comes to putting in screws). You won't regret it. This is a great tool for what it does - Buy it! Rating: - The Best Tool I Own This has to be the best tool that I have ever purchased. My business is installing garage doors and openers. Started with a Black and Decker elec. impact wrench. Moved on to a B&D Tek gun and now use this Makita impacting screwdriver. I can install two doors and two openers with two batteries and never touch another tool except my 12V Makita cordless drill. Buy both and you will have 4 batteries. Leave the 100' extension cords on the truck and enjoy the freedom. Drive 3" lag screws into yellow pine. Work overhead all day and not be tired from dragging around a tool with a cord. Seriously - the first door I put in with this tool was the easiest install I've ever had. Also - don't listen to people who are critical of the 1/4" quick release chuck - these are not designed to be electric drills! They are impacting screwdrivers and are far superior to elec. drills in the areas they are supposed to work in. No torque reaction, for example. Also - Try to toenail framing lumber with 3" drywall screws and a cordless drill. Now try it with this tool and see how effortless it is. I do this all the time when installing doors and adding mounting pads for torsion springs, operator brackets, etc. Run, don't walk to your tool store and buy one of these. Forget the price - the first few jobs you use it on will make you glad you spent the money. Also - don't be cheap, go ahead and buy a few magnetic nutsetters and other bits - they will make your life a lot easier. Rating: - The Perfect Tool does have a few pitfalls! I have heard a lot of great things about this impact driver - so much so, that I bought one to replace my burned out 3 year old 12V Bosch. I was immediately impressed with its power and light weight. It was great for driving screws - but not much else. Here are some things to consider before buying one - It only accepts quad drivers and specific hex bits so if you were planning to use it as a drill as well, prepare to invest in a new set of bits. The multiple impacts wreak havoc on the quad driver - shaking the bits loose (even when locked with the allen nuts!) and jamming the locking collar frequently. As far as driving bolts, you would be better off with a power tool or a good old ratchet. It's also pretty loud when the hammer gear kicks in (no big deal, unless you have been told to "keep it down!") Basically, I would have kept it if Makita had put a 3/8 or 1/2 inch keyless chuck on it but because of it's lack of versatility I went back to a driver drill.
