Rating: - THIS THING ROCKS!
Mattel, I'd been looking for one of these for my son for a long time! There is a major nostalgia factor for us gen-x parents, here. My son is a tall 5-year-old; 'too big for a tricycle, yet too unskilled for a top-heavy bike. It's just what we needed, and he loves it. My only question is, why don't they make a spinout version for girls? I'm certain my daughter will love this too, but give us a more feminine motif with a SPINOUT BRAKE, not a Barbie basket in front ("Turbo Barbie Spinout")! Thanks...
Rating: - The first woman is insane!
All of the "downsides" she mentions for this product are, in fact, all the things a "big wheel" type toy is KNOWN and LOVED for! Fred Flintstone style braking is awesome. NOT being able to stop is part of the fun!BTW, the hand brake is NOT for stopping. It's meant to spin the trike around sideways on purpose! Sheesh! Hehehe
Rating: - Poor choice
I bought 2 of these for my 4 and 6 year old boys. The 4 year old weighs 45 lbs. and the 6 year old weights 65 lbs., well under the 80 lbs. max listed on the box. Here's what happened: The assembly was easy. The decal application was simple. The boys find the seating position awkward, at best. They bang their knees off of the handlebars. They have to "scoot" it going with their feet on the ground as they can't get the initial torque to get it rolling, not unless it's downhill. The seats are mounted with 4 "small head" screws that make initial seat adjustment extremely time consuming. You need a stubby scewdriver to put the 2 back seat screws in, just inside the rear tires. The seat/screw mounts are not reinforced, and the small screw heads have repeatly popped through, causing the seat to come loose or fall off while riding. The hand brake is a joke, and scared me and the youngest when he went off the driveway onto the road as he did'nt stop. Foot dragging is the best brake here. (Stopping and starting reminds me of Fred Flintsone's car. Outdated technology?) Like the rest of the riding toys, these are left outside 24/7. The decals initially looked and applied well but have: wrinkled, peeled and faded big time and this happened in 2 weeks! The Little Tikes Cozy Coupes and Fisher Price trikes have been outside for 2 to 4 years. They are "well used" daily and are starting to show their age, but the decals are still A-1 and they havn't fallen apart. The front tire on both trikes wore through, and Fisher Price replaced them no charge. Save the glitz and buy the Fisher Price trikes (We got the ones with the removalble blue coloured "parent push handle" on the back to help little learners). The seat is easy to adjust with a single locking pin. The kids still will ride them over the basically new (2 months) Mighty Wheel, which is Mighty short of value and fun. Educational value is Mighty high if you need a lesson in "let the buyer be ware".
