Average Rating:
Rating: - Is it a movie? Is it a game? Who cares!!!
Metal Gear Solid 2 is the most hyped game ever, with hype comes responsibility. They actaully have to live up to the hype it is getting. Well Hideo Kojima, you hyped up gamers pretty well and all I can say is that Mr. Kojima's baby lived up to the Hype. MGS2 is an excellent package, great story, realistic and humorous gameplay, breath taking sequences, and jawdropping visuals. It has flaws though, since the story is so good and so complex, many cut scenes are required and shown. In fact, half of this 14 hour game is based on watching cut scenes. Nevertheless when you actually play the game, it plays like a dream. The enemy AI is improved a whole bunch, they can do more and alert their comrades. This game gives so muh realsim that you can almost do anything in this game. MGS2's music is also solid and same goes with the voice acting, although neither are as great as the original. In fact, MGS1 still excels better in characters, music, voice acting, and ending. Overall a great package and a true game to get.Breakdown Story/Plot- 5/5- although it got too wierd in the last parts, with all the twists in the game, it is still very original and shocking. Makes you want a sequel. Visuals- 5/5- WOW!!! so much animation and movments in the game. THe special effects look great and feels like a movie. Audio- 4/5- Music and voices not as good as MGS1. The music is very involving but not all that memorable. Voices could have been better at most parts, even David Hayter(Snake) sis not sound as great as the original. Gameplay- 5/5- Yes! The super long cut scenes may overshadow actual playing time, but man when you start playin you will love it. Replay Value- 4/5- Still wanna play it again, but not that much onl to find what I missed.
Rating: - Overall an excellent game
This really is a great game in many aspects. The graphics, the gameplay, the story line.....all top notch. Easily MGS2 has the best eye candy I have seen for PS2. The visuals are downright stunning at times. The gameplay is vitually the same as MGS (why mess with a perfect system?) The storyline is one of the most original, complex, and well written scripts I have seen on a game. I only have two problems with this game. First, the animated storyline sometimes drags on too long. There were several instances where I felt I wanted to get on with the game instead of watching a 15 minute (I kid you not) movie. Also, the story line has so many twists and turns you really have to pay attention lest you become lost (an ill timed phone call made me miss a couple minutes of story and left me scratching my head for awhile). Finally, I thought the game itself was too short. I beat it in three days time (this on normal level). I was hoping for a longer game (not as long as say Grand Theft Auto 3 but definitely more than just three days). Overall, though, and excellent game. It is definitely a must have for PS2 owners. I look forward to the next installment of this great series.
Rating: none - Good but not satisfied
Alright let me first say that the cutscenes and the plot are great in this game. Don't listen to all those drama queens yapping that the cutscenes and the plot stinks. Ok the game is broken down into 2 chapters so i'm going to rate each chapter.got it?..ok The first chapter is the "Tanker Chapter" which you control Solid Snake, this is the best chapter, so let me put it into a scale from 1-10 10 being the best score. Graphics-10(Great introduction, great visuals,effects,plot)Gameplay-10(Solid Snake can hang from railings, punch, kick, snap necks, shoot tranquilizer darts..etc) fun level-10(when your done with this chapter your gonna go back and play it again and again) Sound-10(awesome sounds and music) overall-9(i gave it a 9 because it's sooooo short in 30 minutes you'll be finished with this level,ok maybe 45 min. Now to the horrid "Plant Chapter" It's 2 years later your a rookie named Raiden and you have to infiltrate a big nuclear plant(oohhh the suspense..yeah right) Graphics-5(cutscenes look good still but there is no backround change, the exterior of the plant is orange and i got so damned tired of that color it got annoying. Gameplay-10(Raiden has the same moves as solid snake but Raiden moves more swift) fun level-10(boss fights against vamp, fortune, fat man, diffusing bombs..etc) Sound-10(still great sound and music) Overall-7(bad backround effects bring the score 2 points downdown, you don't control solid snake 1 point off everything else is good) Overall for both chapters-8 so 4 stars
