Rating: - AN OLD FRIEND RETURNS!
There are some things in life that just help keep things FUN (albeit frustrating at times). One of those things is a Crash Bandicoot game. I've played the first two offerings for the PSX but have basically stayed away from Crash since then. But my trusty old Xbox needed something new so I decided to give CRASH BANDICOOT: THE WRATH OF CORTEX a try.Any gamers familiar with the old Crash games will find the controls and graphics as reliable as ever. The formula also is solid (5 stages per level - 5 levels in all) giving players the ability to choose where they go in each level. Levels vary from basic platforming to running from charging onslaughts to vehicle levels to underwater levels to battling bosses. Some of the levels are a cake-walk while others will leave you with "rage building!" (I like to throw my controller and utter some favorite words). The most frustrating apect on this new offering (and the only downside) are certain levels that leave the player with tricky camera angles and poor depth perception. Aside from merely winning a level and getting your gem, Crash allows numerous areas for repeat playing: 1) Find and destroy every crate per stage (harder than you think) to get a BONUS GEM! Collecting all these gems opens up new areas. 2) Getting through certain stages without dying to open up a Death Gauntlet where hidden gems await. These hidden gems will then open up new stages on other levels. 3) TIME TRIAL! Try to conquer a level in record time. The game saves all times and completing all 25 levels this way opens up even more hidden wonders. All in all, Crash Bandicoot: The Wrath of Cortex will keep any platform gamer happy for days (weeks if you're not very good). It's not the greatest game in the world but it does manage to capture the two key essentials of any good game... IT LOOKS GOOD AND IT'S FUN!
Rating: - Same Crash New Developer Pretty Graphics and Some Suprises
First sitting I was worried that i just wasted 50 bucks. The game feels very diffrent than playing Naughty Dog CRASH.The reason it feels strange is cuz this game was developed by Travelr's Tales.Wich means the artistic value is kinda missing, the controls feel a little weird at first, also the camera seems akward...So i was not really enjoying this version of CRASH. But I kept playing and sure enough started to love it (got used to the change)...there are some sweet suprises thrown in. If your a returning crash fan looking for CRASH for the year 2000 get Naughty Dog's new baby ((jak and daxter)) on PS2...But if you just want a new Crash with richer graphics gET THIS GAME. Or if your someone who has never played crash and have an xbox go and buy it. This is only the FIRST next generation CRASH and I can't wait for more...I think CRASH will still be a cool game for the next 5 years. this game is kinda slow but is really fun at times!...you heard it from Lunar Larry
Rating: - Nice, Fun, Family Game
Crash is almost a must-have on the Xbox. It's fun for everyone in the family (my 7 year old played it without a problem - but younger kids may not be able to). It will keep you busy for a while (there are about 25 different levels to fight through, plus 5 "bosses" - and you can revisit levels to get more lives or other bonuses). There's almost no learning curve. It's just plain old fun! If you liked Fuzion Frenzy, and you don't mind single player games, then you'll like Crash. Some complain that it's graphics aren't breakthrough - but they are certainly sufficient for you to clearly see what is going on. The only real complaint: I wish there were a 2 player mode.
