Rating: - Experience REAL learning and retention with this video!
This video is a great tool for teaching sign language to young people. My daughter learned sign language before she could talk with this. "Talking Hands" is first-rate because it shows the material in a format that instructs with a lesson and does not merely parade information. The child gets the repetition and sees the sign used in context. My daughter (I hate to admit it) learned much more quickly than I did, and ended up teaching me signs from the video. Seems to me many educational videos are directed at parents, but this one was definitely for children! We use the "I love you" sign all the time for a private message to each other in public. She is three now, and can certainly talk well, but we still use sign language at times. She still enjoys watching this video, and asks for it by name. I find she is also learning other languages very easily too. I had heard that learning sign language young helps prepare the brain for learning other languages, seems to be true here.
Rating: - Truly a God send
I have an autistic granddaughter. ...She has never been able to talk and is almost 4 years old. It was very hard to accept and tougher to communicate with her. Most people just give up and walk away. I purchased this video for her and her 5 year old sister, hoping they would learn from it. This is the only video my granddaughter wants to watch and whats more, she has learned everything on it and uses it. My daughter just about cried when Hannah started signing to her out of the blue one day. Both of my granddaughters use the sign language very well. This is a "must have" video for children. By the way, I have to replace it because they have worn it out. Thank you.
Rating: - Let your hands do the talking
I am an avid consumer of sign language products targeted at children because my [hearing] son, 2 1/2, has been signing for well over a year. Videos like this one help keep him interested in signing even as his spoken vocabulary continues to soar. This video's high points are the number of signs presented, the variety of signs presented, and the diversity of people presenting the signs - they show people of different ethnicities as well as people of all ages. The one drawback of this wonderful video is that the adults presenting the signs seem automated. They don't show a lot of facial expressions, which we know is a very important part of signing. I think this video is a great addition to any signer's video library. It will certainly boost your signing vocabulary as well as your child's and it will definitely keep him or her interested in signing even after he/she begins to speak.
